First season with a lower league club - Coventry: Promoted to Championship!

First season with a lower league club - Coventry: Promoted to Championship!
Ok so around a week ago I decided that I wanted to play with a lower league team. I didn't wanted to go that low but I definitely wanted that rush of fighting for promotion and bring a team all the way to champions league glory over the course of many seasons. I've managed multiple teams in FM20 but they've all been at least first division teams. Chelsea 12 seasons. Man Utd 9 Seasons, A. Villa 14 seasons and Dormund 6 seasons.
I decided Skybet League One would be a nice challenge for my first lower club and then spent quite a bit. I didn't want to make the challenge too hard on my by picking Bolton (they start with -12 points) but I also didn't want a "wealthy" team like Sunderland where I would just have the ability to buy monster player (for League One level ofc) and absolutely demolish everyone. After a while I decided to settle with Coventry. First because they start with no budget which meant I would have to work with what the team got and the very low payroll available meant that I couldn't get too many loans and not of high quality. The second reason is because on my A.Villa save Callum O'Hare ended up becoming one of my best players and ended up retiring as my team captain at 37 and he's on loan at Coventry at this first season.

The Formation

I knew I wanted to try something different. I didn't want to go with the classic 4-2-3-1 Gegenpressen. I started looking at my options in the team and realized I had a decent amount of DCs, 2 fantastic wing backs, a decent midfield and one pretty decent striker with a right winger that could also play up front and had ideal stats to be a second support man for my striker. With my sick wing backs, and the lack of a decent left winger (at least if I wanted to make it to playoffs which was my initial goal) I decided I wouldn't play wingers. And after like 4 or 5 league matches I ended up sticking with what would become the definitive formation. A nice 5-2-1-2 which allowed me to have a strong middle with very creative players (cause the 3 DCs fixed a lot of the mistakes and lack of defense they had) and also exploit the wings. Here's my full tactics (I would change some things here and there for some matches but this was what I used the most) and I'll also give some details about each player:

https://preview.redd.it/uc7kd5y8iyd61.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=a46feec2edc1fbc93a07ae600b1318721a676d22
GK - Marko Marosi: Slovakian GK with a good rating for the first team. The team has another option in Ben Wilson but there's definitely no competition here, Marosi is far superior. At first I wanted to bring a better GK on loan as I didn't fully trust Marosi but he ended up proving me wrong. He ended up being the keeper with most shutouts (19) and only conceded 31 goals. He played all but 2 matches and he's honestly a monster shot stopper with amazing reflexes.
WBR - Fankaty Dabo: The Sierra Leone beast! Well kinda. For sure one of our best players with his very high pacing and acceleration paired with very good passing and decent crossing... But holy shit does he have abysmal fitness. Seriously he ended up missing 15 League One matches cause he would end up demolished after every match and sometimes wouldn't get back in time. He was a monster every match but would need to get subbed around the 70th minute consistenly. He ended up being the captain in most matches and gave us a solid 14 assists in 43 matches across all competitions.
DCR - Josh Pask: Supposedly our young player with the brightest future. He started the season injured and had a long way to go with being 4 months out. Started with Rose in this position but as the season went on, he was making a lot of mistakes and after a month of so of Pask being back to the team he told me he wanted more play time and ended up making it a lot better than Rose and even scoring some key goals! He's very physically strong and ended up becoming a started very fast after he recovered.
DC - Dominic Hyam: Ended up being our best defender and definitely rock solid. I think he's the reason my defense worked so well, having amazing positioning, tackling and marking meant he rarely made mistakes and would often fix some mistakes the other defenders made. He's a slower defender but I always trusted him and it payed off. Rarely goes attacking but his defense is so good you can't ask more honestly.
DCL - Kyle McFadzean: One of our experienced players. I had my doubts, he's already 34 yo and I was fearing he would be too slow. I gave him a started spot cause he's basically Hyam but older, pretty similar stats but he's insanely determined and also has a high leadership so I thought he'd be the one to keep our defense in control. He's also physically strong but it's one of those players that only knows how to do one thing. He wasn't spectacular but never dissapointed honestly.
WBL - Sam McCallum: One of our loaned players. He was the other fantastic wing back I realized the team has. He's on loan from Norwich and boy am I happy he have him. He's very fast and a monster at tackling. He's also physically gifted and would run up and down the entire match. Surprisingly ended up being out 3rd goalscorer and most of those goals would be headers cause he would usually enter the box unmarked and just net a most good crossings. He ended up being top 5 in the average ratings on the league and I'd say he's like our 3rd-4th best player. 7 assists.
MCR - Zain Westbrooke: Is slowly becoming our star. This is the position I had a lot of doubts with. Most other positions I knew the players that would start but this one changed a lot. I started with Liam Kelly, team captain but he's an older defensive midfielder and with already 3 defenders in the back he didn't seem necessary. Then I tried Jordan Shipley. He's defintely good and I'm happy we have him on the team but never ended up being as good as I needed. Then came Westbrooke, he was decent at first but as the season went on started to become better and better. He's definitely the one doing the dirty work in the middle often coming down to support in defense and he was usually the one starting the attack. Insane passing and the definition of consitency. He ended up 4th in the average ratings and also managed to give 7 assists across all competition. He's not as notorious as our other midfielder but he definitely was a key part of out title run. If you want to make a comparison to better understand his role, he's pretty much Makelele for Los Galacticos, he might not be as appreciated as his partners but he's fundamental for the whole team to function.
MLC - Liam Walsh: Without a doubt the star of the team... Sadly, he's only a loan. A classic box to box but he's definitely more offensively oriented. He's the creative machine on my team. It's insane how good he is with amazing dribbles and unreal passes, he would eat up entire defenses by himself leaving our strikers wide open to score. I can't tell you how many times he made long range passes that I was just like "How the fuck could he see that and execute it with such precision". He was decent at defense as well. He ended up being the 1st player on the average ratings in League One and gave an insane 22 assists to also be ranked 1st on that regard. He was definitely the most important piece of our title run cause the kid simply drops assists left and right. He's also a fucking machine and would never stop running. Sadly I don't think I can bring him back cause he's too expensive and with Bristol City getting promoted to the Premier League there's no way he can get him on loan again, they're gonna need his insane passes if they plan to fight and not get relegated next season.
AMC - Callum O'Hare: My boy. As I said, in my Villa save he ended up being a club legend so I had high hopes with him. He never was amazing tbh but was always fairly consistent. I wanted him to be the star of my team but never trully managed to do so. He definitely got better in the second half of the season and started to give a lot of assists and managed to end with 15 in the league and finally started to meet my expectations around february. I sadly don't think we can get him back on loan next season.
STCR - Jordy Hiwula: Monster goalscorer. This dude for sure was the surprise of the season and a very pleasant one. I had him here mosly as supposed for who was supposed to be my main striker. Jordy is a natural right winger with insane pace and acceleration and very good passing so I thought he would be feeding a lot of passes to my striker. He doesn't even have high finishing at all but holy fuck he put the team on his back this season. 36 goals across 49 matches in all competitions, with 28 being in the league which allowed him to finish as the top goalscorer and 3rd in the average ratings. He's a bit irregular cause he can destroy a team in a matter of minutes but some matches he would simply not show up at all. I think a big part of his success was Walsh feeding him with insane long passes and him beating defenders with his absurd pace. He would also miss a lot of 1 on 1 vs the GKs but with the amount of times he got to the box without any pressure he definitely scored often.
STCL - Matt Godden: Decent striker but definitely deserved more time. I thought he would be our top goalscorer and he definitely didn't do bad, getting 18 goals in 31 matches across all competitions. At the beginning of the season I got Alejandro Marqués from Zebre and had high hopes on him and gave him a lot more time than Godden. While Maqués wasn't bad, he definitely missed a lot of shots, like he would get stopped by the defense and the keeper very often. I realized Godden was the more solid option in the last like 2-3 months of the season and he scored a decent amount of goals.

Trophies

We participated in 4 competitions:
  • Skybet League One
  • FA Cup
  • Carabao Cup
  • Leasing.com Trophy (EFL)
I'll start with the bad news first. We got pretty unlucky in both the FA and the Carabao cup, we barely managed to meet the expectations for these competitions cause we got paired against unbeatable opponents. We got knocked on the second round of the Carabao Cup after Chelsea pushed our shit in on a 5 - 0 match, we really had no hopes and went as defensive as we could but yeah, it was a guaranteed loss. Then on the third round of the FA cup we get no other than Man City, I couldn't believe our luck. We actually did amazing on the match, it ended 2-1 in favor of City but we actually pressured the entire game and it ended up being a hearthbreaker as we hit the post 2 times in the 91st and 94th minute, we were actually very close to at least forcing a replay which would have been huge for our ego. Still I'm proud of my team for still playing our game again Man City.
We obviously won the league with an amazing 34-4-6 record (I never save scum no matter what). Here's the full league table in case someone is interested:

Last team is Southend with 30 points and a 6-12-26 record
The odds at the beginning of the season had us finishing 5th which meant we would have to work extra time to even get to play offs. But we started winning a lot, scoring a lot of goals and we never dropped more than 3rd place in the entire season. By February we had a a consistent 8-11 points difference between us and the 2nd-3rd and 4th place (which you can see ended very much with the same points) and while we ended with almost a 20 point diferential we only got our first title fight with 5 matches left, in what was the most aggravating match of my FM career. It was against Burton who finished 20th and it started as expected. We ended with a great 3-0 in the first half. They scored a goal at 63 and I was still calm. Then nothing happened for the rest of the match, I was getting ready to lift the trophy with my boys. The ref gives 4 minutes of injury time, whatever. Their fricking right back with abysmal finishing and long shots scores an absolute screamer in 92, I started to get scared. The match keeps going, 94 minutes have passed and it's literally like the ref is waiting for them to score again to end it and welp they did... On the 96 MINUTE FOR FUCK SAKE. I was so mad that I stopped playing for a couple hours, couldn't believe the bullshit. I knew we would still win the title but that tie was so infuriating, just cause how it happened. The fight for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places actually got very intense at the end as literally all 3 teams crashed terribly in the last 4 matches and didn't even manage to get a win, like none of them lol. The last match Peterborough was at 86 going into the last match, same as MK Dons also with 86 and then Oxford with 85, so yeah, all 3 had the worst end season possible. As of writing this MK Dons and Oxford will play the final and I'm rooting for the Dons, they deserve it, they were 2nd place for most of the season and just had terrible luck in the last month of the league. It also didn't help a lot that they got 17 ties! But they even have less losses than us lol.
In the Leasing.com Trophy we actually managed to get our second title of the season but it was honestly always easy af. We got Bristol Rovers in the Southern Section Semis (Regional Final) which we smashed 3-0 and then got Sunderland in the Finals, which was our only close match but even then we managed to get a 1-0 win.

Going Forward

Ok so we are a Championship team now, that feels amazing! But we still don't have any budget to buy players and like a 1M debt so we'll have to keep living off loans from young starts from top teams that need to give them more playtime. My aim for next season is to not get relegated, I'm trying to be realitic and I know the Championship can be vicious. I honestly don't care in what position we finish but I need us to stay in the Championship. I think a realistic plan is for us to stay in the Championship for like 4-5 more years which would help the team with its debt so we can actually start getting a budget and purchease players of our own.
  • Loan extensions: I actually managed to extend McCallums loan for another season and I couldn't be happier, that's some weight off my shoulders. As I said I think getting Walsh back for another year is impossible, specially cause Bristol is now a Premier League team and Liam is literally better than every other player in his position that they currently own. I also tried to get O'Hare for an extra year but Villa said that they actually wanted to keep him as an squad player and he definitely will gain more importance as the season goes on, both wil. I'm proud of my boys regardless and wish them sucessful careers. I won't try to get Marqués back he simply wasn't good enough.
  • Purcheasing players?: I actually got an increase on my payroll and with Walsh and O'Hare leaving I managed to get enough money to get a great improvement of a GK in James Talbot which used to play for Bohemians (Irish league) and for how cheap he was, he's already better than Marosi and a good for Championship level. Sadly he'll be the only purchease of the season.
  • Loans I'm looking for: I currently don't have like an specific player that I want on loan and I'll spend the next few days scouting as much as I can to build a solid team. I do know the positions I want to get players tho. I need a right winger that can help Dabo. I need an starter DC. I need a new Walsh lol, just an star midfielder that takes charge of creativity. I need an starter AM or AP cause I already have a decent academy kid but he isn't ready to be a starter. And finally I need an Striker that can really put pressure on Godden and maybe even do better. I definitely need all these guys if we are to have a chance and not get relegated. I also think a defensive midfielder for the more diicult matches against the top dogs in the championship but we'll see about this one as the transfer window goes on.
And that's it for me guys, I know this was a long post but I was so hyped about my team and I definitely feel like this lower league experience is amazing, I'm glad I finally decided to try it. I'm also open to suggestion for loans you might have that might work on this system I have cause I'm kinda scarred about getting rekt on the Championship lol. Thanks for reading :)

The Premier League is back this weekend, which means a resurgence in Match Betting. Here is my 3 Part Mega Guide to making £500 for several hours work, and then making £500- £1000 on a monthly basis.

So a lot of you will know that I regularly post guides and tips about match betting, However since the same questions always come up in the comments, I decided to make one big, very thorough Mega Guide in order to eliminate as many doubts as possible for you guys. Like I said before, This guide is a handy way to sort out a month's rent for 5 or 6 hours work, so I really hope it can be of use to someone. Anyway, Here it is:
PART 1: MATCH BETTING EXPLAINED; HOW TO MAKE £500 IN 5/6 HOURS
Having done my research and having been able to turn a really nice profit in such a short time, I wanted to make a short guide to eliminate people's doubts and simplify things a little. Since it really doesn't take a lot of time to hit that £500 profit mark, it's a shame not to try it out. Anyway, Here it goes:
I was sceptical as hell about Match betting because a friend showed me the Facebook groups and it just looked like a giant gambling pyramid scheme. It turns out there is a decent chunk of change to be made from it, you just need to follow the guides and never ever actually gamble with your money.
Never ever Gamble? Yes That's right, you are going to be using Gambling sites to complete the various offers, but the whole idea behind match betting is that every time you "make a bet", you match that same bet on the exchange. So for example, if I bet £10 for Real Madrid to Win on the Bookie Site at odds of 2.5, I then also make a Matched bet on the Exchange (This is a separate site such as Smarkets or Betfair) where I bet for Real Madrid not to win at odds of 2.5 (or as close as I can get to those odds). In this way I am covered in all outcomes, and it allows me to fulfill the requirements of the bookies offer (For example Bet £10 and get £30 in Free bets)
What's the difference between the Bookie Site and the Exchange? On the Exchange Site you are basically being the Bookie and just like a Bookie, you have liability. If I bet £10 and my bet wins at odds of 2.5 then I win £25, so the bookies liability for this bet is £15, the extra money that they would have to give me if I win. There are calculators on the Match betting sites which you can use to calculate what Liability you need to enter on the exchange each time you make your matched bet. There is also software to help you find what games have the closest odds on both the bookies and the exchange, which is very important.
What do I do when I get my free bets? It's the same process again, You find a game that has very close odds on both the bookies and the exchange ( You can do this by eye or by using odds matching software. A good site with this software is called OddsMonkey). Only this time when you use the calculator to work out your liability, you will set it to "Free bets SNR" so it knows you are not using real money. It will tell you how much Liability to use in the exchange and off you go.
How does this make me money? The fact that you have a free bet to use is what makes you money, For example a £30 free bet at odds of 5.5 in the bookies will win you £135 (30x 4.5, because the original free bet stake of £30 is not returned to you). Now let's say that the closest odds I can find in the Exchange for the same game are 6.0, I will need a liability of £112.50 to match my free bet in the bookies ( I use the calculator on oddsmonkey to work this out)
£135- 112.50 = £22.50 in Profit.
Alternatively if my bet on the exchange wins, I will lose the free bet of £30 (but it's not actually a loss to me because It's not real money) and I will win £22.50 on the exchange. Either way, I make a Profit of £22.50
What about providing card details? You can use a separate, virtual bank account for all your match betting, In this way your main banking information is not shared with any of the sites you sign up to. A good one to use is Monzo, the app is easy to use and it only takes 5 minutes to open an account. It's free to open an account and last I checked they actually have a referral scheme where you get £5 if you sign up through a referral link.
Non Referral here: https://monzo.com/
Where can I learn to do it? There are some sites that you have to pay a monthly subscription to but I found one called Team Profit that is free and has a full guide of all the different offers you can complete.
I worked my way down through the list of offers, nice and handy, and having completed 20 offers at 15 minutes per offer, I came out at £470 for 5 hours total of work.
If you are new to this site and are opening a free account I would really appreciate if you use my Referral (£10)
Here is the non referral link to the page with all the offers: https://www.teamprofit.com/welcome-offers-list
TLDR: You do not need to "gamble" to match bet, in fact by definition, the bet you make is "matched" on the exchange, so it is not a gamble in any sense.

PART 2: MAKING £500-£1000 EVERY MONTH.
You may sometimes see people commenting saying they have made a lot more money since finishing the welcome offers, £1000-£1500 a month and such, but never saying exactly how...
Personally I have made a lot more profit every month since I finished the welcome offers, Usually around the £1000 per month mark.
People say that Match betting drys up once you finish the welcome offers but this is simply not true, it's a matter of being more organised and checking your email for new offers, while also checking the Reload Offers section on Team Profit every morning (Takes literally 5 minutes)
Below is an Example from last month where I made £300 in one week. Bare in mind that the amount you make weekly will vary with the amount of sport that is on, but as long as there's sport, you will always be able to earn. This example is simply to show you the potential Match Betting has long after you've completed the Welcome offers:
Here's exactly how I did it:
Coral: Money back as a free bet up to £50 if your team is ahead in the first half but doesn't win the match in the end: Matched 5 Premier League games, 3 were successful. I received three £50 free bets which I matched and turned into £130 profit risk free. £130 in 30 minutes
William Hill: Money Back as Cash if your horse comes 2nd- 2 of the 6 horses I matched came 2nd, I was also able to make a profit by just matching the bets because my odds were higher on the bookies side by using the Happy Hour odds (between 12pm-1pm, 3 horses with enhanced odds) and also the 3 daily bet boosts on Horse raising( to boost my odds on another 3 horses). £20 in 5 minutes
Paddy Power: Money Back up to £10 if Horse comes 2nd 3rd or 4th, Matched the horse with the lowest odds and sure enough it came 3rd, got my £10 free bet. £8 in 3 minutes
Skybet: Money Back as cash up to £10 if Horse comes 2nd 3rd or 4th, Matched the horse with the lowest odds and sure enough it came 3rd, got my £10. £9.50 in 3 minutes
Skybet: Wednesday Super odds: Matched the three super odds on the exchange and due to the difference in odds (If the odds on the bookies are greater than those for same bet on the exchange you are automatically profiting). £10 in 3 minutes
Boylesports: £10 Free bet if your bet loses(Premier League Match): £8 in 3 minutes
Paddy Power 2up: An offer where you get paid out early if your time goes up by 2 goals, the profit varies depending on what the odds on the exchange are when you back the team you orignally lay against, but this offer can make you a lot of profit (You will need to download the team profit calculator app and use the early payout calculator). Last week it Made me £35. £35 in 5 minutes
Novibet: Deposit £100 and get a £50 free bet. Very easy because you just have to deposit the money, get your free bet, withdraw your £100 straight away, then match the free bet on the exchange. £40 in 5 minutes
Coral: Bet 3x £5 in play and get a £5 free bet-Availble everyday. Just match these at half time so the odds are stable, Make sure you also place mug bets every couple of days if you do this one a lot, I would reccomend doing it 5 times a week tops. £20 in 30 minutes
Paddy Powe Skybet Bet clubs: Bet 5x £10 bets in a week to get a £10 free bet with Paddy Power. Bet £25 in a week to get a £5 free bet with Skybet. £10 in 30 minutes

Above you can see the reality of making profit long after you've finished the welcome offers, but it comes down to organisation.
So in Summary, these are my 6 Rules for making a monthly Profit:
(1) Check your email daily for offers, many times bookies will send you personalised offers just for you, and these can be very VERY generous.
(2) Check the Reload Offers section on Team profit every morning to see what offers are available that day.
(3) Offers change all the time- Don't let this put you off. There are always new offers to replace the previous ones. There are also Weekly/Daily offers ( Coral £50 free bet, Paddy power refund if 2nd 3rd 4th, William hill money back if second, Paddy Power 2up, Bet clubs etc) which are constantly available when sport is on.
(4) Make Mug bets ( Explained more in PART 3)
(5) It all adds up. Don't think "It's only a £5 free bet, not worth matching". I get around 15 £5 free bets every week, If I ignored them all I would be down £200 at the end of the month.
(6) Don't spend all day at it. Once you've checked your email and reload offers, you know what offers you need to do that day. Set alarms so you can make your matches before each event starts, but don't spend ages sitting at your computer waiting for "the perfect match", for your own mental health, set a time limit of 1 hour per day at most.

PART 3: FAQ
(1) How much money do you need to put in to start?
When you go onto the offers page on Team Profit after signing up, there is an option to start with £25, £50 or £100. You can select one of those three options And it will show you a different number of offers according to your selection. I started with £100 because I wanted to get things moving a little quicker. I did this so that I would have enough money for liability to do a bigger earning offer at the start. One year later, and having see the potential for profit, I keep around £500 floating between my accounts. This is useful for large sporting events where I may want to do around 10- 15 offers in a short time.
(2) Is it in anyway going to impact my credit score?
Using gambling sites doesn't effect your credit score unless you borrow money to fund it. I do all my match betting through a virtual bank (Monzo) in order to keep that stuff out of my main bank on the off chance that it raises any eyebrows. You'll be using Monzo like a cash card, where you can only spend the money you put into the card. This is why it won't affect your credit score, because you wouldn't be taking out an overdraft or using credit for example.
(3) What is Mug Betting?
Mug Betting is where you make bets that have no relation to any offer or promotion in order to appear like a regular punter. If you are doing a lot of offers on one site, it's a good idea to make mug bets in order to avoid being "gubbed" (Gubbed is a term for when bookies realise you are only taking advantadge of promotions and close your account permanantly). Of course you will also Match these "Mug bets" on the exchange. Make 1-2 Mug bets on Each site every week(On the sites you are using a lot for offers and promotions) in order to ensure your accounts last longer than 1-2 years. I have been matching for well over a year and have never been gubbed. Take the extra couple of minutes to Mug bet, it's worth it.
More on Mug betting here

Ok so that's everything I can think of to share with you guys, The link to sign up to your free Team Profit account is at the bottom of Part 1 of this guide.
TLDR: You do not need to "gamble" to match bet, in fact by definition, the bet you make is "matched" on the exchange, so it is not a gamble in any sense.
I really hope this guide will help someone out because It really is a solid way to sort out a months rent for quite a modest amount of work.
Thanks for Reading.

InnocentPossum's Season-Long Bets

INNOCENT POSSUM'S PICKS:

Hey,
The COVID break means this season is actually starting quite soon after the last one finished. As a Leeds fan I am soooo hyped to get this season underway! Below I will share some season-long bets I have, alongside the reasoning why. I will also have a list of other bets I have backed, but the reasoning for these is mostly because I am an excited Leeds fan. Therefore, back the second list at your peril (And the first one in fairness, I can't guarantee anything beyond I put a bit of thought into them.)

MY PICKS (ALL PLACED ON SKYBET):

  1. Leeds and Sheffield United Top Half @12.00 (£40 for £480) 1.1. Leeds and Sheffield United Top Half @10.00 (£52 for £520) (£92 for £1,000)
  2. Leeds +40 Handicap Table @17.00 (£35 for £595) 2.2 Liverpool +5 @17.00 (£25 for £425)
  3. Bielsa to win a Manager of the Month Award @9.00 (£11 for £99 [Now @7.00])
  4. Sheffield Top Half (@3.50), Millwall Top 6 (@3.25), Blackpool Top 6 (@3.00) and Colchester Top 7 (@2.75) £50 total split £10 4-fold and 4x £10 Trebles for £260 Minimum for 3, £2,150 for all 4.
  5. Aubameyang Top Scorer (@6.50), Ivan Toney (@10.00), Matty Taylor (@12.00), Ian Henderson (@9.00) Backed £2 E/W Yankee (Doubles, Trebles and 4-Fold). 3 Out of Placing in the Top 4 returns Stake. All 4 placing is £300. 1 Win and 2 Place is a bit of profit. All 4 winning is 21k.
.

MY REASONING:

  1. This one I ended up double backing. Maybe there is a Leeds bias creeping in, but I feel like at a price of @12.00 and even @10.00 this is a smart bet. Sheff United have proven what they can do, and while they lost Henderson who was instrumental, Ramsdale is a tidy replacement. Leeds are a total wild card; I genuinely think we could come 20th or crack Top 6. I think we will start strong as no-one knows how to deal with Bielsa's play but then will suss it out on the return fixtures. I think this could very easily leave us in the Top half. Assuming Arsenal and Tottenham aren't garbage, the 'Big Six' take the top spots leaving 4 places for who? Everton, Leicester, Wolves, Sheff United; Maybe Leeds, Burnley, Southampton and Palace if they have strong seasons too. Therefore I think these two teams fighting for 2 of the 4 spots left at these odds is great, especially not including Spurs and Arsneal choking...
  2. The way the handicap table works is Sky give each team a + points value (for Leeds its +40) and whoever comes top of the league with all of these values applied wins the league. Therefore it's not a case of Leeds coming 39 or less points behind Liverpool when they win, as Liverpool also get a +5. This means a team like Newcastle could win the Handicap League by coming 8th, as their 52 +48 might be enough to be greater than Liverpool's 84+5, City's 88+0 and Arsenal's 62+25. Ultimately what this table is trying to bet on (all @17.00 until the odds shift as more are backed) is which team will overperform the most. Again, could be a Leeds bias but @17.00 for +40 seems good to me as we are such a mystery, an unknown. Fulham and West Brom are +53 and +52 respectively, but we all know what they are about; it wasn't long before they were in the Prem last. (As a Side note, I will back Liverpool +5 @17.00 as that means if they get like 95 points, even losing the league to City, teams like Man U and Chelsea will need 85 in the same season and I can't see that happening). However, I think the Top 4 will be tighter this year with Man U and Chelsea putting up a challenge, meaning the overall total of points won't be so high as they will take points off one another. This could leave Leeds to take the Handicap victory when given 40+ points (May be consider backing E/W if you follow)
  3. Again possible Leeds bias coming into play but it's no secret Bielsa is a highly renowned manager. Pep and Pochettino both learned what they know from him. Coming up to the Premiership with a newly promoted team gives him so much potential to have a month where he wins 4/4. If he pulls that off, he is likely to get it as no-one anticipates a newly promoted side to have a month that strong. In April we play two derbies against Sheff U and Man U, then also have Liverpool and City. If we have 3 draws and a win in that period, managing to draw against the titanic teams, he could win. With odds of @9.00 (even @7.00) I think this has a tonne of potential.
4.
Sheffield United: Have proven they can get Top Half. While it was likely a bit of an anomaly and they fell flat towards the end, I don't see why they can't do it again. They have a similar strength team and the same manager and strong tactics to grind out results all season long.
Millwall: Millwall have been knocking at the door and I think this year is they finally crack top 6. They are good defensively and have a good spine. They also have a couple of game winning talents in amongst the squad too.
Blackpool: Disappointing 13th last year but it seems like Blackpool have made a real effort to make some key signings and bolster their weaker spots. Out of all of the League One teams, Blackpool's odds looked the best value as a lot of the other teams I fancied were all below Evens.
Colchester: Coming 6th last year I reckon they can get top 7 again this year. My concern is they lack attacking threat but their defence seems to be rock solid. Usually defence is what is needed to do well over the whole season, while attack makes the difference between play-offs and auto.
5.
Aubameyang: Scored 13 in 10 when he first joined in the back end of the 17/18 season. Won the Golden boot joint with Salah and Mane in 18/19. Last season scored 22 and missed out on Top scorer to Vardy with 23. This guy is consistent and unlike Mane/Salah, is likely to be free from competition of a similar calibre to himself within his own team.
Toney: Brentford's new striker. Last season Brentford had Watkins (2nd with 25), Benrama (17) and Mbeuno (15) in the top 15 scorers. The season before that they had Maupay joint 2nd. Now they have brought in Toney to a team who is tipped to be in the top 3 teams most likely to get promoted; this means goals. Toney himself was Peterborough's and League One's top scorer last season with 25 so he knows how to put the ball away.
Taylor: Top scorer for Oxford last season, the team that scored the 3rd most goals. This year Toney has moved to Brentford, Guandillet is in Turkey, Henderson has gone down to Salford, Eisa and Clarke-Harris will both compete for Peterborough's goals and Godden and Ladapo got promoted. I reckon we will see a lot of goals from oxford with Taylor being the main supplier.
Henderson: Mentioned above, now at Salford, the favourites to win League Two this year after one season to feel out the league. Rochdale only scored 39 goals last season but so goals were few and far between but when the chances came it was mostly Henderson who put them away. Now playing for the best team in the 'easier' league we should see him picking up a serious haul.

MY EXTRA BETS:

  1. Leeds to win the Prem (lol) @201
  2. Leeds to get Top 4 @26
  3. Leeds to beat Chelsea Home and Away (Stop Crying Frank Lampard) @26
  4. Leeds to beat Liverpool Home and Away (Giant Killers) @51
  5. Leeds to beat Man City Home and Away (The Master schools the Student) @101
  6. Leeds to finish above Man U (Not happening with the biased pen-giving refs) @17
  7. Bamford 15+ Goals @8
  8. Rodrigo 15+ Goals @21 (Boosted from @14, seemed insane value even if he is more likely to be a creator than a finisher)
  9. A whole bunch of long-shot Request-A-Bets that I recommend you browse and see what you like

HULL: Jakupovic, Robertson, Ranocchia, Maguire, Elmohamady, Huddlestone, Clucas, Markovic, Evandro, N'Diaye, Niasse
Interesting Stats:
  • Arsenal have won seven of their last eight Premier League meetings with Hull (D1) since losing their first game against the Tigers in the competition, back in September 2008 (1-2 at the Emirates).
  • Since that 2-1 victory, Hull are winless in 13 games against the Gunners in all competitions, losing 11 (D2) including the 2014 FA Cup Final.
  • Alexis Sanchez has had a hand in six goals in three league games against Hull (five goals, one assist).
  • This will be Silva's fourth meeting with one of the top six in the Premier League (Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool previously) in his first five league games as Hull boss. Of those previous three games, he's lost only one (0-2 at Chelsea), drawing 0-0 at Old Trafford and beating Liverpool at home on MD24.
  • Silva won on his only previous visit to the Emirates - 3-2 with Olympiakos in the Champions League last season. He's the only manager to lead a Greek side to victory away on English soil in the Champions League/European Cup.
  • Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score in Arsenal's last game against Chelsea, taking his substitute goal tally to four in the Premier League this season (level with Man City's Nolito). No Arsenal player has ever scored more than four substitute goals in a Premier League season (Kanu in 1999-2000 and Emmanuel Adebayor in 2007-08 also scored four).
  • Arsenal have won 15 of their last 17 Premier League games at the Emirates against newly-promoted clubs (D2) since losing 1-0 to Newcastle in November 2010.
  • Hull have failed to score in 11 of their 24 league games this season - more often than any other Premier League side.

Last Meeting
Hull 1-4 Arsenal, Sept 17, 2016

Talking Points:
  • Time for Welback to start?
  • Does Elneny come back in to midfield?
  • Can you already imagine a repeat of the Watford game, or think we can bounce back?
  • Hull looking dangerous with Marco Silva, who beat us with Olympiakos at the Emirates last season. What has he done right since he moved?
  • What are you hoping for from the remainder of the season?

Share a Story with us of why you love PES!

As the title says, tell me (or us) what special moments you had with PES!
I'll tell you all my stories, but be warned, they're long...so if you just want to tell me yours don't hesitate and skip my story!
So, I have always loved the beautiful Game of football! I also have always loved Gaming, and there you go.
I started with Fifa in about 09 and continued with it till' 16. I always was a very big Fan of Carrer Mode, but i got carried away by the FUT train as well. Long story short i got absolutely sick and tired of FUT and FIFA in generall...i played it so long that it would simply could not deliever me enough variety, it got just very very frustrating and i couldn't unfold myself because i felt very restricted in terms of gameplay and tacticts. That's when i saw the PES 16 Demo on the PS Store aaaaand now we're here. I am an ADDICT now. I probably haven't played a game in my entire Life as long as I played PES 16 (for the last 3 months of it's lifespan) and PES 17. I only play Masterleauge and alway use my own Team with own Kits and even some own created players that i either use or place around the world, hoping to cross their ways one way or the other during my countless seasons as a manager.
In PES 17 i would have two masterleagues, one where i played alone and one where i would play and manage Couch-Coop with my best friend (we're best friends since 20 Years!!!)
Here are my Stories (This could take a while but i'm full of passion right now!)
Couch COOP: I remember one very particular game against Bayern Leverkusen in our first ever Euro Leauge. We we're in our first leg during the first stage of KO-Round. We we're at home. We got 0:2 behind and things looked dark as the time was about around the 60' Minute. We weren't particularly strong at scoring goals so we knew we would have one heck of a problem to face if they would win with the 2 away goals. Then we somehow managed to counter and scored (1:2). However we just couldn't make it work and the 90' Minute came and overtime started. 2 or 3 minutes were added. It was in the very very very last chance of the game were we would get a corner. Our keeper would come up front as well. I executed the corner and damn! I hit the ball way too hard and i thought that was it.....but the ball flew....past our best headers......right to our goalie near the long post. Bam! Our freakin goalie equalized the game and we drew! So we would only have to win the next game. We didn't...we lost the next game clearly and that was ist. But hell was it exciting and we still speak about that game today!
One or two seasons passed and we were allowed to participate in the Championsleague! We played sooo damn well and made it without a loss to the final. We felt unbeatable, we wouldn't have played this well for this long in a very long time! (we played on top player i think haha) Then there was the final and it was 0:0 untill Cavani from PSG smashed one in against our keeper in the 63. Minute and we couldn't give the answer and lost.
So more time went by and we became coach of the Swiss national Team (our country) and we even recreated my friend (with incredible similiarity!) and me (not so much similiarity...) and put them in the team and we made our way through the european qualifiers for the world cup! At the world cup we had a very hard struggle but managed to get through the group stage. From there on things went excellent again (We played on superstar then) and we made it into semifinal without being behind scorewise in any game. That game was against spain and in i'd say around the 60' Minute they scored and we felt devastated...we got so used to not have to catch up that we didn't know what to do...we just concentrated and did our best. About 15 minutes later (75') we would experience the most stupid mistake (or game bug?) of the spanish goal keeper and he would score a very very very stupid own goal. So the game was equalized again and they pressed harder again. Around the 84' minute we countered their attack and i remember it quit esactely...i i got past one or two defenders in the penalty area which were still chasing me and i could have shooted but the angle wasn't right, as i was left side from the goal (and it's not Fifa so you could just score anyway) so i played a MANUAL Pass right behind me...my player passed the ball with his heel perfectly THROUGH the two defenders chasing me and my friend got the ball...and put it in the right bottom corner with an inside touch. and that was it. We were in the final...which we lost to turkey (it was somewhere in 2022 i guess so Team's were different in terms of stength)..what a shame right hahaha.
so our goal became: Win the championsleague in PES 17 before PES 18 comes out.
Anyway, a longe time past and he came for a 4 day visit at my student's appartment and we played day and night. At some point another friend of me also dropped by and he, as a fifa-only player until then, was doing really well. I remember a CUP KO-Game against Feyenord Rotterdam (I mix the leagues so the premier league doesn't have 70% of the strongest teams in PES and thus making CL a challenge again) and it was ABSOLUTELY MENTAL! they would score and we would equalize. This all went untill they scored the 5:4 in the 116' minute and we thought that was it. We got the last chance with a corner...the ball came in, missed a player that would have scored...passed in front of the keeper and it seemed like it would go past the line...but then our striker makes it in time and puts that ball on the opposite post and the ball goeas in !!! We then got to penalty shooting and everyone scored the first 5x...then came the turn of my other friend (who doesn't have PES experience)...he holds the penalty and then executes his and we win!! absolutely mental...
Anyway we (just my friend and me) won that Championsleague...it was hard at some points but we humiliated PSG (again) in the final.
BTW i have a video of the highlights of these 4 days which i put on youtube so i could see it from my phone...if you wanna check it out feel free (this is not a promotional thing hahaha)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rc_ICTk3Kh4&t=1s
PS: I should mention that i often play PES with my friend while being stoned...i'm not a heavy user of MaryJ. anymore (i used to smoke every evening on my own) because it just didn't really feel good, and therefore i changed my habbit to smoking pot only while video gaming...this worked for a while but i would get really tired during every 420-Game session...so i quit...except for PES. There are people that say they can study better for exams while their high which would probably be the last thing on earth that i could do...but that "Focus" that they talk of... i get that when playing PES baked. I can channel 100% of my mental energy into the game and just become one with it. I don't want to promote using drugs at all, i just wanna share my experience of completely becoming one with a game. I felt like i was on that pitch. This is of course only possible because of one of the key things that make PES great which is: you can controll (almost) everything in the game! But as I said, i usually only smoke during PES when i play with my friend.
Now, let's go on to my own story:
I'll keep this short and just go through the most recent happenings. Back in FIFA there came a time where you no longer could make your own team with own kits etc (was there ever actually???) and i had to use an existing team to put in my own created players. That team was Ajax, as i am half dutch and i've been to the city several times and their stadium is the only one i've ever been in for watching a game. As i said I usually create my own team but this time I said let's take Ajax. I mixed leagues again and put them in Skybet along with a self created Team (Oxford). I played with them very very long...many seasons went by. Again i would make it close or into the CL- Final but loose it. After that 4-day weekend with my friend and my CL-Win however it was no longer something i focused on too much. However, there was still the Euro-League final! I kicked every teams ass during the Group and KO-Stage (my team was quite Overpowered) and still i somehow screwed it all up in the final against Porto...that was right before Ajax lost their Euro-Leauge Final against Manchester United in real life! I like to think of my own story in the game so i thought of how the club wouldn't be to happy with me as i never got them a Champions- or Euroleauge Win considered the Players i had and their huge (and increasing) wages. At the end of the previuos season where i made it very very very close into the Euroleague Relegation (i hope i don't mix it up, but i thought that i missed a direct placement in the league for either CL- Leauge and Euro League but still made it somehow into the Eurolague after all?) I said to myself you know what? You would get fired in real life! But i didn't really want to leave the club yet. So i flipped a coin. I would have accepted it, if i lost the toss but i didn't and so i continued for another season which ended in said loss of the euroleauge final against port. So after that i said, i need a break. I need a break from european top Football. I want something new. I checked my inbox and i got an invitation from O'Higgins, a chilleniean Team...and i said f*ck it, let's do it! But that wasn't "new enough". So i descided to go from Pass support level 1 (which i played on since i started with PES 16 a year ago) to Pass support level 0. Oh boy that was different. It was soooo hard at first and i couldn't connect any passes but WHEN i did, DAMN did that feel satisfying. I should mention that i changed the difficulty back to top player so i could get easier into the new passing system. I played maybe 1.5 - 2 Seasons with O'Higgins and even though the resulsts looked promising at some times, i failed to deliver. But i got that hunch back of wanting more! So i asked that Team in Skybet that i created myself if i could coach them. I followed their results a while and they dominated the Skybet league for a long time but then somehow messed it up and didn't make it into relegation! To my surprise they accepted.
So i switched back to the heart of europan football, still at pass support level 0 and on top player...i descided that if i make it into the premier leauge i'll switch back to superstar to get the real challenge. It was a very long time in the game already so many superstars would reincarnate in my team and i took them all (i probably won't do that in the next pes as it doesn't really help creating a real challenge but i actually did it so i could get better players and thus getting an even better grisp of manual passing and therefore prepare for PES 18 - because i'll never go back again from manual, i f"ckin love it - it's a game changer and made me fall in love with the game once again after countless times already!) Anyway it was the third season already, and things started very nicely...but then the results got bad and i was afraid i wouldn't make it into relegation, which was my clear goal for this season. Then everything changed again and i got on top of the table! Things looked safe and i would win almost every game...until i drew one game....countless draws followed...followed by some losses and bam...last game played (which i won but those bastards on 2. place won their game too so they would keep their position) and i wasn't in the premier league..but i still had the chance. In skybet the teams on place 3-6 play for the relegation. you have two games against one of those teams and if you win you'll go to the relegation final (1 match only). I played against Lille and got in front very early in the first game (thanks to my defender with an incredible goal!) and i thought things looked good...then Lille managed to score in the 63. and i had some very close chances after that but couldn't make it. So the next game had to be a win. This time Lille got in front very early with a smashin header...to make it worse in the 16. Minute it was already 2:0 for them and i was pissed and frustrated...(i should mention this is my last game before i'll have to study for uni for 2-3 weeks NON-Stop as my future sort of depends on it and i fucked up last year and did pretty well so far but still...gotta do what i gotta do now..and i said i am an addict so 2-3 weeks withouth PES is probably worse than not seing my beautiful Girlfriend for that amount of time...just kidding...or am I?) Anyway things looked really dark... then i got a freekick in the 23. minute (i played 20 Minutes real time per match so the match was long!) and I noticed that one of their players already got the red card!!!! That was my chance. I knew i would have to adapt my tacticts to use my Number-advantage. I also set my PS4 recording to 30 minutes time because i knew this game may be one that i'll see again! So i played really really carefully...very good and careful build up and i got one or two really close chances but couldn't score. BTW i thought that i would have to score 3 Goals at least as they were the away team and scored 2 already (and the last game ended 1:1) but i didn't know the "away-goal"- rule didn't count. In the 36. Minute i get a corner...low cross to my outside defender in the penalty area that takes the ball on with his chest - an upcoming defender somehow trips and flies past him - he turns to the goal and scoreas a volley into the bottom corner across! Hell Yeah! Second half around the 55.th minute, I circled the ball around the penalty area and waitet...then i sent a player in the penalty area for a run and thus creating a huge gap, i play that pass to that player and he low-crosses it in from the sideline of the penalty area in front of the keeper to Wellbeck that deflects the ball - almost to heavy- and the ball rushes on the accross post and into the net....fuckin hell i was going nuts!!! Anyway i was too nervous all of a sudden, my hands got really sweatty but i thought i will win this...and then i notice how Lille playes all out offensive...so wait? that could only mean, that the away goal rule didn't count and they wantet to avoid going into overtime! Nevertheless i coulnd't get a hold of my tactics and mess up passes (try staying calm and focused in that situatuin) and even though i had 2-3 very very good chances i didn't score...so i said nevermind we'll go into extra time then, they don't have a chance! They didn't rally play superbe, they had 2 chances out of nowhere but things didn't get too dangerous... 87' Minute...Modric (my team) looses the ball 30meter away from goal...they pass the ball to a player infront of the penalty area...i assume he'll make a run and shoot so i take a defender and press tackle - but therefore i left the other striker unmarked - and because he didn't make the run but pass the ball and me doing de tackle into nothing but air...the ball slips through my legs, slighlty bumbing of one and thus ends up slow and controlled into the foot of the unmarked striker...we all know how it ended... When the game was finished i wasn't angry though...i smiled and laughed. PES 17 could (after about the 700th game Ingame stats vs cpu) still make me feel that way. Yeah i lost the game and yeah when i get back from exams i'll have to go again in Skybet but you know what? That game was everything i want from a soccer game. And in all these Years Fifa never could give me that. I had great times with Fifa, don't get me wrong but the combination of Player ID, your Controll of the players, the well functioning tactics and so much more just makes PES the game i've always dreamed of. I am an average young adult, i go to university, i have friends, family and a girlfriend and i do sports. I used to play much videogames in genereall as i played since i was maybe 4 or 5 years old so this is a real hobby for me and alway will be. However PES basically has taken that place of gaming in my life, at least during this year. Just wanted to make that clear so you won't think that my whole pleasure in life comes from PES haha.
So this took me about 1.5 hours to write (i'm procrastinating...) but hell i wanted to get this out!
Again, please let me know of your special stories and glorious or frustrating moments!

NEVILLE DEFENDS EMERY

Gary Neville has defended Arsenal's new head coach Unai Emery amid criticism over his tactics during his first two Premier League games in charge.
Arsenal have lost both of their games this season against Manchester City and Chelsea but Neville insists that he has seen improvement early on in Emery's reign.
"For me, the idea of what the coach has been trying to work on is there," he said on Monday Night Football. "He is trying to undo quite a lot of the bad habits, to be quite honest with you, that have been going on for the last five or six years, that those players have had in them.
"But the principle is there and that's a big change for me. It's a big step forward and if I were Unai Emery after these first two games against Manchester City and Chelsea I would be taking the positives."

The German side have remained keen to sign him before their August 31 transfer deadline, with manager Ralf Rangnick stating earlier this summer: "We want him back and he wants to come."
Everton boss Marco Silva has said this summer that he wants to keep the player, that Lookman is the club’s “present and future”, and he was doing everything “to make him happy again”.

08:46

KLOPP: EVERYONE LOVES NABY

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that everyone at Liverpool loves summer signing Naby Keita and that he believes the Guinean midfielder will continue to improve following an impressive display against Crystal Palace.
"He's very shy and not very extroverted but on the pitch you don't see it. He needs to settle a little bit. He's next to Sadio all the time [in training]," Klopp told Monday Night Football.
"Everybody loves Naby but I don't know if he loves us because he doesn't speak a lot. But football-wise you can see the potential is outstanding but we have to give him time."
08:33

BARCA STANDING FIRM OVER RAKITIC

PSG have been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic but the La Liga club will not sell the Croatian for anything less than his €125m buyout fee, report Marca.

MURRAY THANKFUL FOR PL OPPORTUNITY

Brighton striker Glenn Murray has thanked Chris Hughton for giving him an opportunity in the Premier League and not replacing him with a big-name player as other promoted clubs have done.
"You see with some of the promoted teams this year that they have got rid of some players and have brought some big names in. Thankfully our manager did not do that," Murray said.
"He gave everyone that helped the club to the Premier League an opportunity in the Premier League and I think most of us have taken that opportunity."
07:48

POGBA AGENT TAKES AIM

Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola is normally a quiet, reserved man when it comes to publicity - but the Italian isn't showing that this morning on Twitter.

CARRAGHER: VAN DIJK WORTH £75M

Jamie Carragher believes that Virgil Van Dijk's man of the match display against Crystal Palace shows why Liverpool spent £75m to sign him from Southampton in January.
"Tonight is the reason why you spend £75m on Virgil van Dijk," Jamie Carragher said on Monday Night Football following Liverpool's 2-0 win at Selhurst Park.
"There were two or three minutes to go and Liverpool give away a free-kick in a dangerous position. He wins the first header and it goes out for a corner. Then the next one comes in and that is where the breakaway comes, and that's the goal."
06:46

CITY SUFFER BRAVO BLOW

Manchester City were one of five clubs to vote against bringing the transfer deadline forward last summer and they might be lamenting their luck after seeing two players sidelined with injuries.
Following the news that Kevin De Bruyne will be out for up to three months with a knee injury, City have confirmed that No.2 goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has ruptured his Achilles tendon.
City will be unable to sign a replacement for the Chilean until January so young academy graduate Daniel Grimshaw is in line for a promotion to provide backup to Ederson.
06:33

NEVILLE'S PLEA TO WOODWARD

There's more fall-out to Manchester United's defeat at Brighton - with Gary Neville issuing a plea to chief executive Ed Woodward to improve the club's transfer strategy.
"Ed Woodward's job is to deliver profits on and off the pitch," he told Monday Night Football. "Profit on the pitch is performance and trophies - league titles and Champions Leagues.
"The club are delivering off the field, Ed Woodward has done an incredible job in terms of the commercial operation and the way in which the club makes an operating profit, but there is no doubt he should put a footballing structure underneath him that his extremely serious and can go and deliver for him on the pitch."
Read more from him here.
06:30

CARRAGHER EXPECTS MOURINHO EXIT

Jamie Carragher does not think Jose Mourinho will be Manchester United manager next season and suggested he could even leave the club at some point in this campaign.
"I'm not jumping to a knee-jerk reaction because Manchester United lost a game away from home," he told Monday Night Football.
"But after what's happened in the summer, if performances like that continue, I don't think Jose Mourinho will be the manager of Manchester United next season - he may not be manager at some time this season.
"There will be coaches up and down the country looking at what Mourinho said in the summer about bringing players in, a centre-back. [Of the four they have] Jose has spent £30m on two of them and two are England internationals in Phil Jones and Chris Smalling."

A LATE ONE FROM LAST NIGHT

In pretty much the dead of night last night it was confirmed Mario Balotelli would be staying at Nice, despite various links with other clubs.
Balotelli even failed to report back for pre-season training initially, but Nice's twitter account has now confirmed the Italian forward will remain with them this season.
"The Italian international expressed his wishes to the directors," they said. "There will be a third season for the forward. The agreement was signed by all parties on Monday evening.
"Suspended for the first 3 games of Ligue 1, the Gym's forward, who has scored 43 goals since arriving at the club, will be available for selection next week, ready for the trip to Lyon.

Preview
Three games into the 2014/15 SkyBet Championship finds two pre-season promotion contenders much lower in the table than they would've hoped. Last season's flamboyant top goalscorers Derby County have so far struggled to recapture some of last season's magic, and fans will soon begin to worry should the wait for a convincing league victory go on.
On Saturday, they host relegated Premier League mainstays Fulham who had hoped for a quick return to the top flight. However, Felix Magath's men have so far failed to notch a single point, losing their opening three fixtures by a single goal on each occasion.
Despite spending huge money on proven goalscorer Ross McCormack, Fulham have so far found the net on just one occasion, with their only goal coming from defender Tim Hoogland. Fans will then surely worry about the proposition of travelling to Derby to face a side who have kept two clean sheets in their opening three fixtures.
Indeed, previous to their midweek game against Charlton, it was a sturdy defence that described the Rams' opening to the season - far from the swashbuckling antics throughout the back half of the last campaign. Although they have showed glimpses of their hidden quality, the home crowd will hope for a convincing victory full of flair and pace to lift spirits.
Unfortunately for fans of both sides, history suggests that a draw may be the likely result with the last four contests between Derby and the Cottagers resulting in a draw after 90 minutes, including two during Derby's most recent run in the Premier League.
Steve McClaren's Derby enter the game as favourites, however that tag may be beginning to weigh heavily on some of the younger player's in his squad, with the likes of Will Hughes perhaps dropping to the bench in favour of the more experienced John Eustace, or more cultured Omar Mascarell, after having an unconvincing start to the season in front of the back four.
A win for both sides could be vital in restarting their season and begin the charge up the table, with sights set on the coveted automatic promotion spots and a return to the Barclays Premier League. Whilst failure may signal a wake up call to the reality that the SkyBet Championship may be the most competitive league in the world, and one not easily escaped.
Team News
Derby County
  • One or two changes must surely be made to the Rams' starting 11, after picking up just one point from their last two games
  • Recalls to the starting line-up possible for Johnny Russell, Leon Best and John Eustace
  • No fresh injury concerns for Steve McClaren leaves him with a wealth of options in attack and midfield
Fulham
  • Felix Magath made five changes ahead of the Cottager's last game against Wolves, however the result remained the same. More changes can be expected as he struggles to find his best 11
  • The few guarenteed starters include big money man Ross McCormack, captain Scott Parker and goalkeeper Jesse Joronen
  • Three different formations have been used in Fulham's opening three games, however it is likely that a line up will be selected in order to suppress Derby's width
Top Goalscorers
Derby: Jeff Hendrick / Jamie Ward (2)
Charlton: Tim Hoogland (1)

Match Events

Starting Line-Ups
Derby: Grant, Forsyth, Keogh, Christie, Buxton, Hendrick, Bryson, Eustace, Martin, Ward, Russell
Fulham: Joronen, Hoogland, Kavanagh, Williams, Bodurov, Burgess, Roberts, Parker, McCormack, Woodrow, Stafylidis
Derby 5 - 1 Fulham (1 - 0 HT)
KICK OFF
  • 23 min - GOAL DERBY! Jamie Ward's 3rd in the last 2!
  • 28 min - Mostly Derby so far, with Fulham struggling to get any real possession in the Rams' half
  • 31 min - Dangerous ball into the box by Fulham from a free kick, put out for a corner well by Christie
  • 34 min - Fulham starting to get on the ball more, with a few corners building up
  • 37 min - Ross McCormack spots Grant off his line and tries and audacious long range effort, dealt with by Grant but Fulham's best effort so far
  • 41 min - Complete switch in momentum now as Fulham have had much of the play for the last 10 minutes
  • 41 min - Derby counter up the pitch and earn a pair of corners, relieving some pressure in the process
  • 45 min (+1) - A foul on Russell by Kavanagh earns Derby a free kick in their own half which should be the last kick of the first half
HALF TIME
Ross McCormack and Scott Parker the two stand outs for Fulham for me, with McCormack often going deep to get involved. We looked a lot stronger for the majority of the half, but Fulham finished the stronger and Derby will hope to start the second as they began the first. As for the Rams, John Eustace has provided a good stable base to build from, and is staking his place well to start reguarly.
KICK OFF
  • 50 min - An interestingly worked free kick for Derby results in a good ball in by Jamie Ward which is headed over by Keogh
  • 52 min - Eustace intercepts in the middle and feeds the ball to Johnny Russell who blazes over the bar, Derby looking bright though
  • 53 min - GOAL FULHAM! Scott Parker
  • 53 min - A free kick smashed straight into the wall eventually finds its way to Scott Parker who slots a placed shot inside the post and into the Derby County net
  • 55 min - A great worked move by Derby County ends with a great ball across the box by Jeff Hendrick, and Chris Martin skies the ball over an empty net!
  • 57 min - Derby really in the ascendancy after conceding, looking much the more likely to take the lead again
  • 59 min - GOAL DERBY! Craig Bryson
  • 59 min - Another fluid move by the Rams going forward is met by a neat cushioned volley by Craig Bryson from close range
  • 60 min - Substitute Fulham Stafylidis Off Kacaniklic On
  • 61 min - GOAL DERBY! Chris Martin
  • 61 min - It's all going on now! Real end to end stuff as Chris Martin finds some space in the box and slots the ball into the corner of the net
  • 66 min - Substitute Fulham Hoogland Off Voser On
  • 68 min - The game has calmed down somewhat after a frantic 10 minutes following the Fulham goal, and Ross McCormack has gone down with a head injury
  • 72 min - Attendance is 26, 577
  • 76 min - Still no substitutes for Derby, I'd like to see one or two fresh legs on to secure the 3 points
  • 76 min - Jamie Ward has been fantastic today, and puts another good ball into the box
  • 80 min - Final Sub for Fulham Roberts Off Eisfeld On
  • 81 min - The link-up play for Fulham just doesn't seem to be quite there today, with one-twos not finding their mark by small margins
  • 82 min - Substitute Derby Russell Off Dawkins On
  • 83 min - Substitute Derby Bryson Off Hughes On
  • 87 min - GOAL DERBY! Chris Martin
  • 87 min - The two substitutes combine as Hughes frees Simon Dawkins who hits the post with the rebound falling kindly for Chris Martin
  • 88 min - GOAL DERBY! Simon Dawkins
  • 88 min - Hughes AGAIN frees Simon Dawkins who this time slots home
  • 90 min - Final Sub for Derby Ward Off Best On
  • 90 min (+1) - It's Olé time now for Derby, who are happy to see out their first big win of the season!
FULL TIME
It's a fourth straight defeat for Fulham, and Derby finally notch up a string of goals and claim their first emphatic win of the season.

£5 Challenge.

Okay, I learned from the failure of the £1.50 Challenge.
A 4 fold was ambitious and that's not going to happen again.
For this new challenge I will be using SkyBet. This is for one reasons, SkyBet Club. For anyone that doesn't know, if you are signed up to SkyBet club, you will get a £5 free bet every Monday, if you spend £25 on bets throughout the week.
This challenege is planning to take advantage of that and use that £5 every week.
Hopefully it will go something like this...
Monday £5 (Free) - £9
Tuesday £9 - £15
Wedensday, We can bank £5 of that incase we lose the next one and we will be able to start again with no loss. £10-£16.
Thursday - £16 - £22
Note: The £9 from Wednesday + £16 on Thursday would make the £25 needed for a free bet.
Friday £25 - £33
Saturday £33 - £40
Sunday £40 - £50.
Now obviously, the money won't follow this exact pattern each wich, that is just an example of how I hope it will go.
I do have a few rules I want to put in place for this to try make it safe.
Rule 1: Singles or Doubles Only!
Rule 2: The Money can be slipt across bets. For example if we have £10 on the account, we could have 2 singles for £5 each.
Rule 3: Have fun. This is the most important rule, if you are not confident in the selections for what ever reason, please don't do it. I don't want to see you lose money. This challenge is for fun so don't spend beyond your means.
This chalenege will start tomorrow, Monday 19th. This is we get a fresh start on the SkyBet Club.
This first bet I do is a double. You may choose to do 2 singles or only back one of them. It's up to you! :)
Bet 1
KAMAZ vs Arsenal Tula
DRAW OR ARSENAL TULA
KAMAZ Last 5 - W1 D1 L3 GS3 GC7
Arsenal Tula Last 5 - W3 D1 L1 GS4 GC4
Looking at the current form, you can see Arsenal Tula are doing much better in every aspect... except goals scored. This is the one reason I haven't gone a direct win for them.
To be fair, the last 3 games Arsenal Tula have played have been difficult, with them being against 7th, 5th and 9th. So goals in them 3 were always going to be hard to come by.
Arsenal Tula currently sit 3rd with 31 Points from 16 Games and a +8GD, which is the 3rd best attack.
Now let's have a look at KAMAZ. To begin with, they are second to bottom in the league with 10 Points from 16 games and they have the worst defence in the entire league, with -17.
Now lets look at the results. The last game they played they did actually win but it was against a team just 1 place above relegation.
The have conceded goals in the last 4 games and only socred in 2 of them.
It should be pointed out that even though they are losing, the results have been close, normally being 1-0 or 2-1.
Looking at all of this, I can't see KAMAZ getting 3 points. I can only see a 0-0 or 1-1 draw or a small win for Arsenal Tula.
The last time the two teams met it ended 0-0, but that was 11 years ago...
BET 2
OFK Pirin vs Beroe
DRAW OR BEROE
Last 5 OFK Pirin - W0 D2 L3 GS1 GC4
Last 5 Beroe - W3 D0 L2 GS13 GC4
To be honest, I do feel like Beroe will win this but I am only 90% sure on it so i didn't want to risk it.
Beroe come into this game off the back of a massive 7-1 win, however that was a freindly so it can't count for to much. If we get rid of the freindly the last 5 games becomes W2 D1 L2 GS6 GC3.
This isn't as impressive, at least not until you look at who they played.
The draw was a 0-0 to the team in 2nd. The wins came from the cup and against a team just 3 points behind them. The losses came from an away game at 1st place, which can be forgiven and against the team in 8th.
That last loss is the only real blip in what has been a good run of form.
Beroe sit bang in the middle of the table in 5th. 17 Points, 11 Games, +2GD.
OFK Pirin are 10th in the league, thats last place. They have 4 Points in 11 games, a -11 goal difference and are yet to win. All 4 points were obtained via draws, 3 of which ended 0-0.
Here is the reason I am not 100% on a Beroe win. Even though Pirin have lost 7/11 games, 5 of them were by 1 goal. 4 ended 1-0 and 1 finished 2-1. The other 2 losses were both 3-0 against the top 2.
Basically, unless they are playing the top 2 teams, Pirin seem to be able to hold there own. While I don't see them beating Beroe, I can see them snatching a 0-0 or 1-1.
Stake on the Double: £5
Return: £7.14

Preview
After narrowly missing out in the SkyBet Championship 2013/14 Playoff Final at Wembley earlier this year, Steve McClaren's Derby will be looking to bounce back immediately from heartache with a good start to the new Football League Championship season, with promotion on the mind of every Derby County supporter.
They face a Rotherham United whose day at Wembley was a much more joyous occasion, as they were promoted from League One via an enthralling penalty shootout at the end of their Playoff final in May.
Since then, however, Millers boss Steve Evans has made wholesale changes to his squad, with many departures and bringing in no less than 12 new players, including experienced former Derby midfielder Paul Green from Leeds United, and exciting Chelsea loanee John Swift.
In stark contrast, Derby County have looked to keep the group of players who were so successful last season together. With new long term contracts for key players Craig Bryson, Jeff Hendrick, Jake Buxton and others, as well as new contracts for Steve McClaren and his coaching team.
The Rams have added a few new faces, most notably defender Cyrus Christie who fills a void left by Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom, and former loanee George Thorne joining on a permanent deal. However, Thorne was to suffer a poorly timed and serious injury just days after making his move, leading to Steve McClaren bringing in Real Madrid loanee Omar Mascarell to cover.
This clash will surely give both clubs an idea of where they stand in this season's Championship, with both having very different aims for the season - indeed Steve Evans could not have wished for a more testing first game back in the second tier, with Derby the highest finishing side to remain in last seasons Championship, and last season's top scorers.
As such, Derby County head into this fixture as heavy favourites with both fans and the bookmakers, however, a relatively unknown Rotherham side will look to surprise many this season and will certainly ensure a tough opening fixture for the Promotion favourites.
Team News
Derby County
  • Jake Buxton a doubt with a hip flexor problem, Craig Forsyth could partner Richard Keogh in defence if Buxton doesn't recover in time
  • Fellow Centre Backs Mark O'Brien and Zak Whitbread also injured
  • Starts likely for Grant, Keogh, Forsyth, Christie, Bryson, Hendrick, Russell and Martin
Rotherham United
  • New signing Frazer Richardson out with foot injury, suffered in pre-season
  • Fellow new arrival Febian Brandy unlikely to feature having not taken part in pre-season
  • Plenty of competition for every position on the pitch, with many new arrivals. Evans is unlikely to know his best 11 at this early stage

Preview
On the second match day of the new Football League season, two 100% records will be put to the test as Derby County travel to the famous Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday. The Rams come off the back of a 2-0 away win in the Capital One Cup, and a narrow 1-0 victory at home to newly promoted Rotherham. Meanwhile, Wednesday battled hard to a 1-0 win away to Brighton and breezed past Notts County 3-0 at home.
Owls fans had been pessimistic ahead of the new season, with many pundits tipping them for possible relegation. However, they have looked solid at the back, and played some good stuff, especially in their latest fixture. Add to that a new arrival in Stevie May set to make his debut on Saturday, and Wednesday look a more difficult test than back in February.
However, Derby have an exceptional record against the Owls in recent times - with the Rams unbeaten since 2006, and have only lost 7 competitive fixtures in 2014, including the 2013/14 Play-Off Final and a cup tie with Premier League favourites Chelsea.
The most recent meeting between these two, earlier this year, had high flying Derby County struggle to overcome a resolute Sheffield Wednesday side who were unlucky not to take something from the game. However, Chelsea loanee Patrick Bamford's incredible strike in the second half was enough to secure 3 points for the travelling Rams.
Since then Wednesday boss Stuart Gray has brought in a few new signings including free transfer Sam Hutchinson, striker Stevie May and new Goalkeeper Kieren Westwood from Sunderland, and has a settled centre back pairing in Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees which hasn't conceded a goal thus far.
A settled Derby side is unlikely to rotate much as manager Steve McClaren has insisted upon continuation to generate momentum at the start of the new season. Midfielder Jeff Hendrick is sure to keep his place following his second goal in as many games on Monday night, and Jake Buxton is likely to be reinstated after being rested against Carlisle.
While the outcome is hard to predict, one thing is for certain ahead of Saturday's clash at Hillsborough - the atmosphere is sure to be electric. With the Owls' first home game of the SkyBet Championship season generating huge buzz at home, there are also likely to be over 4,000 Derby County supporters making the journey up the M1, with an attendance sure to break the 30,000 barrier.
Two 100% records, with both sides yet to concede. Something has to change by the end of Saturday's fixture.
Team News
Derby County
  • Jake Buxton will surely be reinstated in the starting line-up, with Zak Whitbread likely to drop to the bench
  • The midfield trio of Hughes, Bryson and Hendrick have all done enough to keep their place, though the experienced John Eustace may be called upon
  • Leon Best came on and looked sharp against Carlisle, so may well feature again for Steve McClaren's Derby
  • We are likely to see all of Russell, Ward, Dawkins and Martin at some stage of the afternoon
  • Will we see more of Real Madrid loanee Omar Mascarell?
Sheffield Wednesday
  • The Owls' defensive five are unlikely to change with Westwood in goal, Palmer, Lees, Loovens and Mattock in defence
  • New signing Dejan Kelhar will not feature due to suffering an ACL injury, most likely ending his season already
  • Stevie May should make his debut up front for Wednesday
  • Hutchinson and Lee almost certain to form the midfield partnership after impressing thus far
Talking Points
  • Who would you bring into the side that hasn't featured yet?
  • Would you like to see the likes of Coutts and Mascarell get some minutes?

After weeks of waiting the new football season began in earnest this weekend, with Capital One Cup opponents Carlisle United and Derby County both beginning their new campaigns at home. Heading into Monday evening's contest are clubs at different ends of the football league system, both suffering heartbreaking ends to their previous seasons.
While Derby were anticipating an ultimately unsuccessful Play-Off Final against QPR, Carlisle United were contemplating life in the basement of the Football League following a disappointing campaign that left them 5 points short of safety and, ultimately, relegated to League 2.
Fast forward to the new season, while the Rams were celebrating a late winner by Jeff Hendrick on the opening day of the new SkyBet Championship season, Carlisle were staring down the barrel of a narrow home defeat to newly promoted - and hotly tipped - Luton Town.
Having played just two days prior, it is expected that we see a number of fringe players appear for the Rams on Monday night, including a possible start for goalkeeper Kelle Roos who impressed in pre-season.
Cumbrians manager Graham Kavanagh may not have the same number of options afforded to him as Steve McClaren, however, he will also surely have to rest some tired legs and bring in some fresh faces - albeit with more keeping their places.
These two clubs have not faced off in some time, since they last met in this competition back in the Autumn of 1990. A home tie for Carlisle in the League Cup was tied at one apiece - forcing a replay at the Baseball Ground, which Derby were to win 1-0 in the last fixture between these sides.
Given the number of fresh players available for Derby, and their higher league status, they are heavy favourites despite being given the Away draw. However, the Blues will be looking to make the trip as difficult as possible and Derby have struggled in this competition in the past - having won just 1 of their previous 5 first round League Cup fixtures.
Team News
Derby County
  • Jake Buxton recovered from a knock to feature in Derby's first league fixture, and therefore wouldn't be expected to feature just two days later. However, the Rams are short of options at Centre Half with injuries to O'Brien and Whitbread
  • The Rams are fairly injury free besides defensive problems, and the long term injury to new signing George Thorne
  • Non-starters from the opening fixtures such as Roos, Naylor, Eustace, Best, Bennett, Ward and Sammon will all be vying for places in the starting 11
Carlisle United
  • The Cumbrians have a relatively small squad of just 22 players, with no fixed under-21 side to speak of. Therefore, more starters will keep their places due to a lack of options
  • Expect goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and the likes of Gary Dicker and Billy Paynter to keep their places
Talking Points
  • Who would you bring in for this First Round tie?
  • Would you give Kelle Roos the nod?

Top of the table Derby County travel to back to London to face Brentford after rebounding from their loss at the weekend, to roar to a 5 - 2 victory away at Fulham.
In their last league fixture, Derby's 11 match unbeaten run was brought to a halt by Wigan Athletic and the Rams will have to continue their winning away record to remain at the summit of the SkyBet Championship.
Meanwhile, Brentford haven't won in their last three league fixtures and will hope their midweek rest will give them an advantage at home, where they have only lost once so far this season in the league.
The two sides have only faced once in the last decade, where Derby thumped Brentford 5 - 0 at the iPro Stadium in the Capital One Cup last season.
However, tomorrow's fixture is likely to be a much tighter affair, with recently promoted Brentford performing well above expectations despite their recent dip in form, and tough to beat at home.
  • What are your predictions for tomorrow's away fixture?
  • Do you think we will go on another strong unbeaten run following a big win over Fulham?

Bristol City: In For A Penny, Out With A Pound (March through June 2015)

Mid Season Murder
Sorry for the delay, my internet was out all day.
March 2015
Growth Report:
We go into March hoping to restore winning ways after a ropey set of results from December through February, Freeman is our biggest hope for now having struck 11 times in the 2 month spell just gone.
Results:
We finished the month 18 points clear, and with a piece silverware bagged, we are also fully aware that with only 18 points up for grabs we need only avoid defeat in any of the remaining 6 matches to seal the title in a fantastic season.
Ramallo remains top scorer with 24 to his name.
Smith's 11 assists make him the leader.
Alnwick took centre stage for the keepers, 16 clean sheets to his name now.
April 2015
Growth Report:
An entrancing, or disappointing, month awaits as we need only take a point from 5 to seal SkyBet League 1 title. It feels all a little anti-climatic after the nerves of 2015 that we could win the title with so little fuss.
Still, we were forced to raise our first Youth Academy product this month, American starlet Pzydrowski may only be 55 overall as of now but his potential stood at 80+ at the time of promoting. Time is on his side, and I like the look of him.
Results:
With 45 games played we are officially champions, we have amassed 106 points, 19 clear of Barnsley and I'm ready to get on with the finish and start next season.
Ramallo now on 25 goals is the highest scorer still.
Smith added one more to his assist tally, still topping the league with 12.
Alnwick still tops the league with 16 clean sheets, going into the final game of the season.
May 2015
Growth Report:
I decided to give you something extra in May, to stop in being a wasted month. Only one game is boring to read, so here's a real basic look at my youth prospects.
Result:
The season is over and we are champions, not only that but we can boast of a cup win as well, we amassed 109 points over the season winning 33 games, drawing 10 and, annoyingly, losing 3 of our games. We acories 99 goals in the process, while we managed a league best 37 conceded.
Ramallo took home the golden boot, 25 his final total.
Smith won the assists award, 12 enough to edge out Yesil on 11.
Alnwick finished with 18 clean sheets, somehow managing two in a month with just one game. He won golden gloves.
June 2015
Growth Report:
With this month purely an admin month, I will still tell you what happened, but it's not that interesting though.
Thanks once again for reading, and I'll see you here at the end of September.
