I walk my dogs regularly but they are quite big. People are scared and demand they go on the leash, which is fair enough, I'd be scared too. A foreigner here, my GF fell for an obvious scam by the company registered on Cyprus, wonder what the laws are.
So here is the story: My GF found some ad about a special offer from her operator for very cheap phones. Ofc her mostly using a phone to browse cat videos, she registered, not seeing a problem with giving up her credit card numbers on registration(for future payments ofc). She gets no e-mail with a password, so she gives up. This is a long read, important part is at the bottom, marked. 2 weeks later she notices 59$ deducted from her account for some company she never heard of. She informs me, I teach her what a chargeback is, another 2 weeks later the bank denies it because the charge is legit. Now she recalls(ofc), so we contact the company. She block's the card. They take two days to respond, give her a password, which doesn't work. She contacts them again and let me just quote emails to see how they respond to the different question then she asked(well, those aren't questions, to be honest): "I've recovered login and password thanks to your Customer Service but I still get a message saying that my credentials aren't valid. Also, I didn't receive any bills from you." Response: "Based on our system you signed up for a 10 day trial of our service for the amount of EUR 2,00 on the date of 24 Feb 2020. We have sent you an email containing your username, password and subscription details link for further information on that same date of registration. Since we have not received a cancellation request from you within the trial period, the system automatically activated the Free Trial to a Full membership and billed you for the full amount. However, your account has already been cancelled, rest assured, no further charges will be deducted on your account and you can still use the remaining of your subscription up until 4 Apr 2020. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reply to this email." She informs the guy she didn't ask about any of this and asks again about billing invoice and working password and also why was her account canceled since she didn't ask for this and according to terms it gets prolonged automatically(we both know the answer is "so she doesn't lose enough money to do something about it"). The important part: We know her money is lost and we accept that. But we are sure others will fall for it and we hate that. As I wrote before, she didn't get any bill, repeatedly asked for it, nada. This is a fiscal crime in my country and those are persecuted harder than murder(because government doesn't like losing money). You have 7 days to email/mail someone a bill and if you don't do that and someone informs tax office you get fiscal control if you do that often, they establish a pattern and you get hit hard, the company usually gets closed as result, people responsible get fines and so on. If people who got scammed spoken up often enough, this wouldn't be profitable. Can we do something like that in Cyprus? Again, what are the laws here?
