Help me pick a resort for my dad's surprise 65th birthday celebration

I have a year to plan a birthday gift worthy of my father. He's scratch golfer who doesn't really play much away from his club's course. My plan is to book a cabin at a golf resort where I can invite him, mom and a few members of the extended family. Play golf everyday for a week, eat and drink at night.
Here's what I'm trying to find:
Any suggestions?
I'm doing some research on my own into places like Sand Valley in Wisconsin but I figure there have to be diamonds in the rough that I can locate with help from all y'all. Thanks in advance!

Iron 1 to Diamond 2

Like many people with Valorant, it was my first real PC FPS. Growing up, I played FIFA and COD on console and League was probably my introduction to some sort of competitive PC game.
When I started valorant, I was pretty frustrated because I would run and gun and none of my bullets connected. I tried to jump-shot people like COD and I even asked my friends how to drop shot. In the beta, I placed in iron 1 and I stayed around that elo for the entirety of the beta.
I’m no FPS pro but here’s how I climbed (playing almost entirely solo) to D2.
  1. The basics of the game require good crosshair placement and aim, which comes with time as long as you work on it. I think climbing out of iron/bronze/silvegold require mostly good crosshair placement. Honestly, for a diamond player, I will admit that my crosshair placement is pretty poor compared to players in my life elo. However, what separates lower elo from higher also has to do with MOVEMENT.
1a. Movement: Swinging - I often see lower elo players walk peeking a corner, but to take gunfights you should learn to lineup your crosshair with the wall and swing HARD, not some slow walk peek that makes you an easy kill for the enemy. Learning to air strafe/shoulder peek is good for getting info. You would also learn to hop around to get away from utility if you’re getting overwhelmed in some circumstances.
Also I see that sometimes people just blindly swing and that’s the end all be all of the gunfight. Sometimes it’s a better idea to shoot a few bullets and then get back into cover instead of spraying an entire mag and praying that your enemy misses too. I “jiggle shoot” (jiggle peeking and shooting while moving) to try and kill people.
  1. Pace: In most games, it’s either brain dead rushing a site or waiting in spawn for the entirety of the round. However, when the teams are even and it comes down to a bit more strategy, it’s important to bait out utility, force/delay rotations, and gather info on the other teams set-up. A healthy medium would be fighting for map control (the most infamous would probably be fighting over mid control on split).
  2. Gunfight choices: Unless you’re playing Jett or Reyna, wide swinging into a rushing team on defense is probably not the best option (it forces your team to be down a player and likely causes an easy site take for the enemy team. My favorite advice about any tac shooter is to take as many unfair gunfights as possible. Using your blinds before peeking, peeking off the killjoy turret, I think Reyna’s blind can even tank a few shots.
  3. Making information plays: Often times your teammates will say “don’t peek just play a passive angle on site” when you’re having a bad game. However, doing so will put your team in a worse position due to the potential of a late rotation/giving up crucial map control. Since I play Sova, getting early round info is pretty easy with Recon Dart and the drone. However, you can make similar plays with blinds to see if the enemy shoots or runs away, Raze grenade/boom bot. And every character can give a quick shoulder peek/air strafe, and I’m pretty confident that lower elo players won’t be fast enough to shoot a quick jiggle (I mean I can’t).
Something I like to do on Sova is to recon dart early round and then if I don’t see anything, just have someone rotate early to the other sites to fortify the defense there.
  1. Playing unorthodox: There are two elements to this: you want to have an unpredictable play style/strategy and you might even want to switch up the guns you use. For play style, you want to keep your opponents on their toes with where you could be located and the timings of your peeks.
For weapons: you might not always be having an amazing aim day. Being a dirty Sova main, I often resort to the Odin/Ares wallbang. On the map split, short range weapons like the judge/Bucky/stinger are better than the classic rifles in many circumstances. Picking them up keeps the enemy on their toes.
  1. Develop mastery for one agent. I like Sova because it’s a great information gatherer and I’m a nerd so I don’t mind learning the lineups. Everyone likes playing duelists but I like to think that my info enables the cracked aimers to pop off.
  2. Communication is important: even if you’re the only one talking on your team, giving comms when your dead while spectating can also be useful (as long as it’s not a clutch situation where you’re backseat gaming).
  3. Play to get better. Have the mindset of everything is your fault and as yourself how you can play every situation better. The truth is that your teammates don’t lock you in any elo. Play to improve with a positive mindset and you’ll get better over time.
  4. DON’T play on tilt: Back in my league days, I would often lose a long stressful game, and then lock in Lee Sin in 5 more ranked games and lose them all. If you want to climb, you’re most likely going to have to try your hardest in each game. So if you lose a tough tilting game, or start a small loss streak, just take a break (even a short one) before coming back to it.

New Pokemon Diamond and New Pokemon Pearl

Hello, for a few months in mid 2020 I worked as a temp game tester with Gamefreak, I am still very much under NDA however I believe I have taken enough measures to keep myself hidden. During my time as a temp I got to play the next Pokemon games in various stages of completion in the late Beta and got to see the majority of what the game had to offer and I was to point out any inconsistencies or glitches. Below I will list things that are to come in these new games named "New Pokemon Diamond" and "New Pokemon Pearl" NDNP (what I will refer to it as.
- The game obviously a remake of the classic Diamond and Pearl story however it will not star Dawn or Lucas, it will star new customisable characters like previous titles. However Dawn and Lucas will remain as characters within the story, and will help take down Team Galactic.
- Following Pokemon will be available over the whole region, the option is given by Dawn when you go to Rowan's Lab for the first time and it is togglable in the Pokemon menu like LGPE.
- Poketch has been changed to the Rotom Watch and you will have it from the beginning however it will be expanded by Professor Rowan to include the Pokedex App. The pause menu will be the Rotom Watch and will include most of the apps from the classic games, however some apps will have usage outside of the menu like the step counter being in the screen's corner.
- The Pokedex is still cut but different pokemon being cut this time, many non Galar Pokemon from SwSh being cut
- Rotom Bike returns to replace HM's with customisation being vastly improved (aka custom helmets and bike colours) from Sword and Shield
- The camera is unlocked in all areas except buildings and a few specific locations like Spear Pillar.
- Contests return, VS Seeker and Pokeball Seals return, Seals will be different from previous games though.
- Mega Evolution and Z Crystals will not return, however Gigantamax/Dynamax and Regional forms will return with new forms for each. I didn't explore too much of Dynamax (I'll explain further) however I know the starters and Floatzel will Gigantamax.
- The underground returns with it being the only way to capture Dynamax and Gigantamax pokemon, the Dens and Wishing Pieces returning there, Wishing Pieces can be found by digging the walls. The underground will have a mini map showing which Dens have available pokemon.
- Dynamax Adventures is hinted at within the Underground but the entrance is blocked and nearby person says it is under construction (possibly to come in a later update or maybe it just was a Beta thing and will be there on release)
- Dynamax Battles will only be available in the Elite 4 after the first playthrough, but will be available at the Peak of Mt.Silver explained later.
- Notable Sinnoh forms are Psychic Gastly line and Ghost Abra line. This will also help add more fire types to the game like a Fire/Rock type Onix (magma body) and likely and Fire/Steel Steelix. Also standard Houndour line is catchable in Sinnoh.
- The Elite 4 will be stadium battles like Sword and Shield, there will not be specific challenger outfits like SwSh though.
- I have no reason to believe Darkrai is available, however there is a hint to it as the kid is sleeping in the bed. Likewise Shaymin is also not available, no hint to it though. Regigigas is in the game nothing really more to add here.
- Battle Frontier is not in the game, could possibly be a future dlc?
- Resort Area is on the regional map but not accessible, likely dlc.
- Giratina will be like in Platinum except you don't capture him in Distortion World, you actually capture box legendary there Giratina will be catchable later. The box legendary will have an origin form like Giratina when holding their respective orb and will be like that in the distortion world.
- Johto is in the postgame
- There is a post game episode like ORAS' Delta episode involving Arceus. You will travel to Johto region and investigate the Ruins of Alph a clue (unown letters forming words) will lead you to the Sinjoh Ruins where another clue (Azure Flute) will lead back to Spear Pillar where you use it to summon Arceus.
- The Johto Safari Zone is not accessible but the Great Marsh is reworked into a small wild area.
- The Manaphy Egg will be gifted by Mr.Pokemon in the Johto region.
- Pokemon Master Red will be battlable after the Arceus Quest at the top of Mt.Silver and his Pikachu can Gigantamax.
- Finally the Day 1 event will be a Froakie with the Special Ability Battlebond (usable once a Greninja) no other Kalos starters in the game and the ability cannot be bred down. I am speculating it to be the event as it had to be tested.

There is this restricted mine town in Elizabeth Bay, that has a Siemens metal bar (industrial) at the mine (picture in link) meaning the company has their hands in a dirty business. Conveniently, there is also a Restricted diamond mining area nearby. We all know about the blood diamonds.. 🩸 💎

There seems to be a potential family connection between Eleonore Deichmann and Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (October 11, 1884 – November 7, 1962) and a major connection (marriage) between the Bushes and Eleanors. Coincidence? I don’t believe so... at least one of their families lines, if not both are connected to the Royals and Rothschilds, the same goes for any other individual mentioned in this page.
Prescott Bush was the father of George Herbert Walker Bush and the grandfather of George W. Bush, both future presidents. He helped finance Hitler from America. Due to his funding, his organization was seized in the, “Trading With The Enemy Act of 1942.”
George W. Bush, becomes the 43rd President of the United States in the year 2000. Bush and his family declare they are the ancestors of the House of Plantagenet, whose linage stems from the Royal House of Judah.
Could it be the “Herbert” Walker Bush is really really related to Herbert Simon founder of the original company of, before it was renamed and reestablished as Simon Property Group, Inc./Ltd?
This would mean the Trumps, Bushes, and any other household politically/government affiliated individual are all part of the royal house and share the same “bloodline” and also control/have connections in other countries like Russia/Germany/Italy/England/etc...
They put on “a show” for the general public through the media to make it appear as if there are “issues,” to create chaos in the public, so no one catches on to the reality, which is they a connected family line living in different countries that work together behind the scenes and create problems to mislead to further their own gain. Occasionally, one of the families may become more selfish and double-cross their other family members, but that’s a different story...
Ever wonder why celebrities and Royals have strange or repeating names? Above is why. Conveniently, the last names came be changed through marriage (or even a 2nd/3rd identity) to cover their tracks.

Why? It is simply a power struggle between the 5 original Rothschild/Royal families that established themselves worldwide a long time ago. From that point forward they branched out, married their family members from the other countries (to keep the money in family and grow simultaneously).
Eventually we are in today’s time, and they all have different last names and have grown so large you can barley tell them apart. They purposefully “cover” their tracks they best they can...

It can have several definitions and meanings, so how do I know how to properly interpret it? It doesn’t specify.... It’s all an “act” just like all the “bills” they write... What would the puppet show be without it right?

I have thought about this for a very long time, I have studied them, and put myself if their shoes...I try to be as fair as possible, though the families and companies listed below are all connected (marriage/2nd identity bc of incest and/or trying to hide, what the publicly traded companies really are [Fortune 500, for example] that everyone [general public] supports by working foin/or against the system.
Yes, some of these individuals are guilty of horrendous crimes including mass genocide, but that’s okay, I’ve decided, as long as they break their evil system down and convert it into a positive system that truly works in favor of the people instead of Exploiting the whole world and storing children and animals in shipping containers? Like wtf is that shit? Are you not ashamed of yourselves? Is greed worth it? A black soul and heart... I am the soul collector and I am coming for you! Neither good nor bad, I hear the screams I hear the prayers and the rituals, I hear the true desires...And yes, I am fully aware you know that I know... so here is my reply. That’s why your family is not necessarily guilty even though at the same time you are, bc you kept pushing the agenda knowing what was really happening behind the scenes.
I guess everyone part of your family or any of the associated business owned by many individuals are lucky that they are not stuck in shipping containers, sex trafficking, 🩸 Diamond mines, drugs, laundering, etc.... imagine being on the opposite end of the spectrum...
Why not use your power and money for the light good instead of the shadow of evil. Negative energy collects and feeds in ways that you don’t for-see.

Permeated Potions

I had this idea when thinking of just random things to add to the game. The reason I want this is because it’s just another super duper rare thing which would give you something to do late game, and something which would throw a rock in the early game if you stumbled across it
Here’s how it works:
A permeated potion in my interpretation basically means that the potion spreads all throughout you and becomes like an integral essence of who you are. So once you obtain this potion effect, you are totally unable to obtain other potion effects until you die or drink milk. Drinking a new permeating potion will replace the old one
The potion itself gives you the basic version of the potion for infinite seconds, so nightvision, strength I, speed I, etc. for infinite seconds, but at the cost of not being able to apply any additional potions.
How to Obtain
They are extremely rare potions which are only found in biome specific chests, and even then it’s not a guarantee, it’s rare. Varying from desert temple rare woodland mansion rare. Making you hesitant to use these unless you’re sure you like the effect. The locations of the potions would be vaguely based on the location itself in order to make sense
For instance:
There would be these potion effects for all sorts of things, like jump boost, speed, and even glowing. Some of them would be almost useless but these ones would be more common. The ones with high usefulness such as strength or pvp implications like levitation would be much more rare. The common ones might be as common as finding a god apple while the rare ones might be 20x this rare.
So when you combine these factors with the rarity of finding certain structures, you can see why this would be incredibly late game achievements to be able to find and confidently use these potions without fear of dying slowing the effect
How it Would Effect the Game
I wouldn’t want a new meta which is why I gave certain limits, no new acquisition of potion effects, Etc.
It’s meant to barely convenience the player with extreme consequences for its use, like being unable to eat a god apple and such. So if you’re planning on using this you’re essentially devoting a lot of time to this, like if you’re on a server and your base is getting griefed by 5 dudes who already set their spawn point you might pop a saturation potion before heading into battle
This isn’t meant to be something people would just abuse like how netherite instantly obsoleted diamond. These potions are NOT more powerful than normal potions, they just last longer. So it’s an extreme responsibility to have these and it wouldn’t ruin pvp
Wither and levitation would basically be an insta kill if your opponent doesn’t have milk, which might be worrisome at first, but what are the odds someone wastes something far rarer than a notch apple just to get some diamond armor, even this wouldn’t change meta. It would just be a last resort for a high stakes situation

These potions would give another thing to work for as a late game player, and would be extremely useful without being extremely powerful. They would serve to spice up speed runs or other game modes where good rng loot can make or break a game, and due to their immense rarity they would not obsolete normal potions.
This just serves as a natural progression once more, for instance “I just died with my last permeated potion therefore I’m gonna grind for another”

My ideal Diamond and Pearl Remakes

Hi all. I tried making this a "leak" on 4chan to mess with YouTubers and Twitter but it got deleted like after 5 minutes cause it was honestly too detailed to be a leak, but I still want people to see it so here we go. If I were part of TPCI or Game Freak this is how I'd remake DP:
There next pair of main series Pokémon games are to be released in November 2021. These games are titled Pokémon Rough Diamond and Pokémon Smooth Pearl. These games are both remakes of Diamond and Pearl, and somewhat sequels to Sword and Shield that take place in the Sinnoh region.
Region changes: The Sinnoh region shall look like a stunning upscaled version of the original Sinnoh with increased detail architecture and geography. Expect to see a livelier cities and routes that still feel familiar. The graphics are slightly improved from Sword and Shield but run on the same engine to reserve/reuse some assets and save time.
There are Wild Area-like locations that allow for free roaming and full camera control. The areas are: Lake Aquity, Lake Verity, Lake Valor, Iron Island, Great Marsh, Amity Square, the inside of Mount Coronet, the Underground and the post-game island which contains the Fight Area, Survival Area and Resort Area.
Following Pokémon has returned and is not limited to the free roam areas. Rotom Phone returns but now has apps similar to the Pokétch and pops in from the right hand side of the screen. The Berry trees from Sword and Shield make a return but a berry farming area similar to that found in Kalos is available in Floarama Town. Honey trees do not make a return.
Super Pokémon Contests are back. Very similar to the similar to the ones from Diamond and Pearl. Seals are also returning. Event seals will be given to players through the Mystery Gift. As mentioned above the Underground makes a return, with Secret Bases. It has a big design change but works similarly to the original.
Story: The main story is the same as the events of Diamond and Pearl with a few minor differences, however the event that occur on Mount Coronet with regards to Team Plasma and the Dialga/Palkia cause a disturbance in the Distortion World. In the post-game Chairman Rose will introduce himself to the player. He has become aware of they player’s involvement with Dialga/Palkia and asks them to travel to the Distortion World through a portal Dialga/Palkia makes in Turnback Cave. In the distortion world we find that Giratina has gone mad and is multiplying by creating corrupted clones of itself. The Giratina clones are actually Eternatus. The player has to battle this enraged Giratina to stop it from cloning itself. The Giratina is capturable, but is at a very high level and has special boosts similar to Totem Pokemon found in Alola. While this happens the different Eternatus escape through the portal the player entered through and the player has to travel around Sinnoh looking for these clones and destroying them before they cause damage. Destroying most of these clones cause a beam of purple light to shoot into the sky. This beam causes Dynamax dens to appear in “wild area” like locations, excluding the Underground. Rose then reveals that he was aware of Eternatus and Giratina because this has happened before in the past but Dialga and Palkia managed to calm Giratina down and moved the clones to space where they would be in a chronic state of rest and cause minimal distortion, as they are much weaker outside of the Distortion world. He then explains Darkest Day event, how one of them appeared in Galar from a meteorite 20 000 years ago and was awakened 3 000 trying to absorb every source of energy. He then explains about how he tried to bring back the Darkest day for energy but was stopped by the Champion of Galar, his younger brother and another hero that was close to them. After the credits roll again, Dynamax and Gigantamax shall be available in the Sinnoh region.
The rest of the post-game continues like Platinum. The Battle Frontier makes a return, however it will not be available on launch day but with a free future update, expected sometime between May and July 2022. You will be able to have daily rematches with certain important trainers such as gym leaders, Dawn/Lucas, Barry, and a few other trainers in the region. Their teams will be significantly stronger with some of their Pokémon being able to Gigantamax. Mega evolution will be available in the post-game. Trainers will not be able to mega evolve their Pokémon if they have Dynamaxed/Gigantamaxed in the same battle, and vice versa.
Legendaries: Heatran, Cresselia and Regigigas are discovered and caught the same way as in Platinum, however you need to have Regirock, Registeel, Regice, Regieleki and Regidrago from the Crown Tundra in your party to awaken Regigigas in Snowpoint Temple. The Member’s Card, Oak’s Letter and Azure Flute shall be given through Wifi distributions throughout 2022 and shall trigger events similar to those in the 4th generation games. A Special Research in Pokémon GO will be available on launch day which will award a Manaphy which cannot be transferred to Pokémon Home, as well as a Manaphy egg which can be transferred to Home and to RDSP upon completion.
Pokédex: The Sinnoh Pokédex is expanded to include 348 Pokémon, including Sinnoh forms of certain species, and other species from generations 5 to 8. The National Dex is back. All known species of Pokémon will be usable in these games. Pokémon Sword and Shield will get an update that allows connectivity between the four 8th Gen games, but the remaining excluded Pokémon from Sword and Shield will not be able to be transfered to Galar. All new Gigantamax forms for Pokemon available in Sword and Shield and the Sword and Shield Expansion Passes will be available in those titles with the free update on launch day of RDSP. RSDP players will not be able to mega evolve any of their Pokémon when battling someone using a copy of Sword or Shield.
New Moves:
G-Max Bouquet: A Grass-type attack that Gigantamax Roserade use. This move lowers the opponent’s evasiveness.
G-Max Flatulence: A Poison-type move that Gigantamax Skuntank use. This move lowers the accuracy of all opposing Pokémon.
G-Max Dune Slide: A Ground-type move that Gigantamax Hippowdon use. This move increases the speed of all allied Pokémon.
G-Max Honey Spread: A Bug-type move that Gigantamax Vespiquen use. This move harshly lowers the speed of the target.
G-Max Ding Gong: A Psychic-type move that Gigantamax Bronzong use. This move lowers the special attack of all opposing Pokémon.

This is a long post however, you have been forewarned.
So, with all that being said, hope you guys enjoy it!
Let's begin with an overview:
Grand Theft Auto VI is the biggest Rockstar title yet, approached with the most advanced systems ever. GTA VI will be released on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC only, with the online mode (more on that in the next part) releasing a month after release. The game itself takes place in 3 key locations (technically 4):
  1. Vice City (Expanded and Enhanced), in the fictional state of Flores (based off Florida)
  2. Carcer City, in the fictional state of Garrison (based off Detroit, Philadelphia, and Chicago)
  3. The People's Republic of Del Castillo (Based off of Cuba and Brazil, respectively)
  4. Liberty City (VERY linear, certain portions of story playable)

Vice City:

Vice City has been greatly expanded, and now includes 2 other key locations based off of Orlando and Tampa: Mamba and Paxville. Paxville is based off of Orlando, and includes 2 different theme parks: Fun-World & AnimalDome (both based off Disney World/Universal Studios and SeaWorld).
Fun-World is a one-stop shop for having the most fun you can have. From fun-rides to the weird candy the man near the entrance sells, players can ride rollercoasters, take pictures with mascots, and do side-missions from the management and employees of Fun-World.
AnimalDome is a bit more based on SeaWorld and appeals to players that want animals in the game, whether in hunting, fishing, or even exploring. A new side-activity you can do is hunt for legendary animals (all across the map) and donate them to AnimalDome for rewards. It ranges from lost fish in lakes and oceans near untouched waterfalls, all the way to rare birds in forests alike.
The landscapes such as the marshlands are similar to Bayou N.W.A from RDR2, with alligators and crocodiles alike in wetlands, with many other secrets to uncover.
One key icon is the Gator Chain, which is based off the real life Florida Keys, 8 islands pulled together by a single highway.
Another key icon is the Green Pastures, which is based off of the real life Everglades, a subtropical wetland in the heart of south Florida, filled with all kinds of natural society.
A new air force base, Fort Kayak, is also included within the state as well.

Carcer City:

The newest addition to the series, Carcer City is supposed to be gloomy and dark, that of rivaling Vice City's vibrant feeling with the lights shining at night. The roads are narrow and sleek, and are very easy to get lost in because of the grid zig-zag layout. At day, you find old factories blowing out dark smoke, with lower class people getting ready to go work in their old crusty cars. The feeling heavily changes at night when you find the darker parts of the city emerged. Get yourself downtown and on rooftops of buildings, you'll find yourself feeling like Batman looking down at all of Gotham City.

The People's Republic of Del Castillo:

This is solely an island based on the likes of Guarma. On one side, you have favelas in a small, compact, linear city with a mini-airstrip for an airport, while it slowly moves onto tropical forests on the other side of the island. Free roaming is fine, but be careful as there are others who are watching you. Be aware at all times no matter what.
As for Liberty City, a small portion is only playable for certain missions only, incredibly linear.

Gameplay:

The gameplay is similar to that of a mix between IV/V (realism and arcadey-ness). The car feeling is similar to IV when crashing and whatnot, but also contains elements of V's driving. Interaction with NPCs is more realistic and grounded. Walk around in a suit and people ask if you have somewhere important to be, walk around in punk clothing and get trash thrown at you. Red Dead Redemption 2's interaction system with NPCs returns with a new change: multiple dialogue options. Say you choose to greet an NPC and ask if they need help with anything. They might say yes and you could be given with two choices: a) "Sure, I'll help out!" or b) "Alright, well, hope it gets done then!".
You can choose the way the characters are. Aside from antagonizing NPCs, you can pave a path for these characters depending on the way you want.
Wanted levels return, as well as the 6th star. Here is the new way the wanted system would react when given stars:
A new gameplay experience that is added is backpacks or duffel bags. This will not be realistic in the sense where it will weigh down your character and slow them down. You can store different things in either one now, whether it be snacks for refilling health, armor, or other materials you can find. You can find collectibles across the map and store them in there.
Another returning feature is the stats: energy, driving, and flying. Energy encompasses the other stats such as stamina, strength, etc. The more energy you can max out, the more stamina and more health you have. Driving and flying are the same as before.

Story:

In terms of story, I think Project Americas' narrative based off of the leaks seem very interesting, and also makes for interesting scenarios gameplay-wise during the smuggling missions. Another feature I 100% want back is heists. They were done amazingly in V with their setups and then finales where you had somewhat of a variety was fun for the replay ability. The same can also be said for the Diamond Casino And Resort Heist and its diverse offerings.
For characters, in terms of playable ones, I would enjoy seeing 2 protagonists this time around, maybe a male and female if possible.
The game could end with 3 endings, one where our characters become enemies, one where they remain neutral (friends), and one where they begin a relationship or something like that.
Other characters could be possibly a funny crooked lawyer (think Saul Goodman), maybe another Phil Cassidy-esque character as well if we're heading back to Vice (IF that is).

Last Topic, Time Period (?):

So, this is the big one. I'm having some trouble picking what time period might fit well for my ideal game.
Normally, I would say the 1980s, but even then some people wouldn't really enjoy it, so I decided to take a look at past games and see where this game might fit well in terms of time period:
  1. GTA lll (2001): 2000s (2001 specifically)
  2. Vice City (2002): 1980s (1986 specifically)
  3. San Andreas (2004): 1990s (1992 specifically)
  4. IV (2008): 2000s (2008 specifically)
  5. V (2013): 2010s (2013 specifically)
  6. Online (2013-2020): 2010s - 2020s (Specifically unknown, speculated 2020)
With this being said, I think one time period that could totally work is the 2000s, but instead of 2008 like IV or 2001, I say mid 2000s: somewhere around 2004 - 2006, with some flashback missions dating back to the 1980s (1984, 1987, or 1989).
Now, the internet as we know it wasn't fully developed like how it is today, but it was still actively rising. Funny internet videos and downloading was the norm during that time. Rockstar, with its satire can actively parody the internet as it did with IV and V.
Instead of using the internet to buy cars, players now actively have to go to dealerships, each with their own specific kind of cars (legendary motorsport with their fancy cars, warstock with heavy vehicles, etc).
Now, for the flashback missions. Thinking realistically, it's almost impossible for Rockstar to create different models and whatnot for two different eras.
Now, what I PERSONALLY can see Rockstar doing, if they do decide to go down the flashback route, I can definitely see them create a VERY linear mission-design for a small portion of the map where a mission takes place, and changing some of the buildings and billboards to fit the era (in this case, the 1980s).
For example, take Vice City for example. There could be a portion of the city where the buildings are abandoned, roads are cracked up, etc. There could be a story mission where it takes place in 1984, in that exact portion of the city, where the roads are freshly paved, and the buildings are lively and booming.
RDR2's jump from 1899 to 1907 is justified, in the sense that most of the map is just environments without as many buildings as GTA.

Jennifer Northington came from old money, living on a fortune created by a man that had passed long before she came along. By the time she was twenty she had traveled the world, trashed a couple hotel rooms, bought and sank a yacht, and returned to New York with her parents begging her to settle down. With no choice but to listen to their pleas, she chose a plastic surgeon named Bruce Abernathy. His father had recently opened up a hotel chain that had grown big and been bought out. soon Jennifer moved into real estate, buying land quicker than in a monopoly game. Although the Northington and Abernathy name was nothing compared to Marriott and Ferrari, the money made up for it.
Years later, Jennifer had no idea that the baby in her arms was not Bruce's until Eros waltzed into her hospital room three days after Brooke was born wearing a grin that could only mean trouble. He explained the situation to her and Bruce, and was very lucky that Bruce was not a violent man. After giving them the location of the camp he requested Brooke be sent, he was gone without so much as a goodbye. It would’ve been understandable if Bruce had tried to divorce his wife for her infidelity, yet with Jennifer's business deal in the near future that would rely on their appearance, he agreed to keep it quiet. He raised Brooke as if she were his own daughter. Which meant hiring a nanny as soon as possible.
As a young child, Brooke's life was filled with a record amount of nannies. There was Frida, the German nanny who spoke little English. Bethany, who ended up stealing one of Brooke's diamond bracelets. Gabriella, who was her second longest running nannies, before quitting after having children of her own. Natalie, Melanie, and George, who were all gone within a week for one reason or another. Patrick, who taught her about renaissance paintings and her last nanny, Katarina, who now works at the house in the Hamptons as a caretaker (a rather easy job since the family visits once every couple months). Brooke saw her nannies more often than her mother.

Brooke trudged behind the silent Satyr leading her through the thick of the forest. Why would anyone want to stay here in the middle of no where. Why couldn't this stupid be anywhere else? Maybe an expensive resort? That would be a lot more preferable.
She picked up her pace, trying her best to keep up with her satyr guide. Well, if she was going to be living here for the time being, she might as well make the best of it. At least here she could make friends with people she actually liked, her school life back home was more about building connections than making actual friends.. Her parents would push her to make friends with the girl who’s father owned the company that her mother wanted to buy. Friendships were created by family and nothing else. It turn it was rather hard for her to figure out who was sincere and who wasn’t. Eventually she would cross over the boarder into the camp, following close behind the satyr as she pulled her huge suitcase behind her. Maybe she should've brought less things, it's really starting to get heavy. Brooke took a few steps before coming to a stop, taking in the place. Gross, just gross. She whipped out her cellphone, desperately looking for some kind of signal. As she scowled at the device, the image of a golden bow along with heart shaped arrows appear above her head.

[NF] Giant Space Rocks

Interstellar objects pass freely through a star system.
What should be done?
Developing a system to protect a planet from a collision should be the top priority for any civilization. This planetary protection system would require both detection and defensive capabilities in order to be effective.
Once a civilization has developed their planetary protection system, pursuing other goals becomes practical and desirable, such as space exploration, the search for other forms of life, etc.
But what happened here on Earth?
As soon as our ancestors developed an understanding of impact craters - which are clearly visible on the surface of Earth and especially on the Moon - they should have immediately recognized the threat of extinction and began planning a solution. So where is our planetary protection system?
How did the conversations go?
"Giant space rocks have hit the planet and killed most living things," said the person observing an impact crater.
"Yes, but, what about those people with different skin color? What about those people who worship different imaginary beings? What about those people who speak different languages? What about those people who govern differently?" said almost everyone else.
"Giant space rocks will hit the planet and kill most living things," the crater-observer clarified.
"Yes, but what about controlling people? Controlling their appearances, hairstyles, clothing, and what they do with their genitalia? Controlling their beliefs, their hopes, their dreams? Controlling what they consume? And what about all the punishments? We need to punish people in order to control them," the masses clamored back at the crater-observer.
"None of that (all those bad ideas) will matter when a giant space rock hits the planet and kills most living things," the crater-know-it-all said.
"That crater looks really old. The planet doesn't get hit very often. We've probably got plenty of time. It won't be too bad. I've never met anyone that went extinct," humanity's near-consensus sang out in unison.
"All life as we know it will come to an end," the human-skeptic warned.
"Let's talk about money and how much it's going to cost. Giant space rocks are expensive. The damage they do sounds expensive. Can we really afford to spend money dealing with giant space rocks? What about the economy? What about the stock market? How will we fund this giant space rock program? Which social services should we cut from the budget?" said a nation's government, the one best-equipped to deal with giant space rocks.
"We should devote all of our resources and efforts toward saving the planet. It's the only planet we have at the moment," the crater-propagandist opined.
"This planet is disposable! And so is the human race, because our brains cannot understand priorities. We forgot that our planet is our first priority. Instead we became obsessed with the concept of governance, obsessed with controlling human behavior, so we created these labyrinthine systems of laws and customs," the human conscience grumbled from its coffin, its raspy voice escaping as the hammer of capitalism took aim at the final nail, a nail forged from the skeletons of logic and reason.
"Imagine an alien planet," the crater-preacher proselytized. "We, the human race, observe the aliens living on their planet happily doing their alien activities. One day, we notice a giant space rock hurdling toward the happy alien planet. To our surprise, rather than do anything about it, the happy aliens just keep going about their routine, busily conducting their alien business, practicing their alien traditions and so on. As the giant space rock gets closer, they start eating alien cakes."
"How silly! Why would the aliens eat cake instead of blasting away that giant space rock?" the dying breath of humanity chuckled.
"Because they like cake," the crater-fanatic proclaimed. "The aliens enjoy cake and that's all they know. Their whole existence revolves around pursuing the things they enjoy, and their entire alien culture was designed to prioritize consumption."
"So what happened to them? Did the aliens just eat cake all the way until the end?" the ghost of humanity asked, wiping away the royal icing and belching methane into the atmosphere.
We know giant space rocks enter the atmosphere. I've seen first-hand evidence of their treachery. I've visited their impact craters and watched those demons streak across the sky, both in person and through electronic representations of them. I also know I'm not the first to understand a little about their evil, world-ending quirkiness.
So it was a bit of a shock when I, as a child, started learning about our priorities on this planet. You see, we teach children everything else is of utmost concern, except giant space rocks. Sure, the GSRs could be mentioned at some point in a science class (if science education is available to the fortunate child), but they are certainly not prioritized ahead of everything else. And if they are actually ever taught, GSRs seem to only feature in relation to the dinosaurs.
Humans like dinosaurs. They like them so much they want to go extinct like them.
Is it an issue of time? It happened too long ago? It won't happen again in my lifetime?
Then I say, "Tunguska", and every near-miss since.
At around the same time I learned about the dinosaurs, I was also informed of a new version of mail that would replace traditional postal mail in the future. A good idea, I thought at the time, and I couldn't wait for the electronic version to take over so we could finally bring an end to the era of the papyrus scroll.
But, no, we decided to cling to bad ideas like we've clung to the papyrus scroll era. The disregard for our own survival is a death-wish, actually, and it thrives in all aspects of human endeavors outside of the science to stop GSRs. Surely, once humans developed an understanding of the cosmos and the threat of giant space rocks, they must have also had the potential to at least start preparing a plan? Is it still an issue of technological limitations?
Tycoons could have done more. The industrial magnates of the modern era could have focused on our survival, especially the ones dabbling in natural resources, but they chose to exploit an injured and dying planet rather than try to save it. Short-term thinking, for industrialists and for the human race. They could have become famous for building humanity's giant space rock defense system, humanity's planetary survival system, but instead they chose to build automobiles and railroads and sell products and trade resources and ...
Why are more people not upset about tycoons destroying the planet instead of saving it? We should have already had a head start on solving the giant space rock problem. And it is a huge problem, and always will be until we either build the planetary defense system or follow the dinosaurs. It is a problem that will never go away.
But we procrastinate. If the news broke that a planet-killing space rock would hit us in a century, I imagine several tycoons would get to work today saving the planet (or at least start developing actionable plans for the next generation). They might see it as an opportunity to exploit the burgeoning industry of space industrialization and colonization, but I suspect some minor progress would be made toward building a solution.
(It will most definitely need to be built, whatever the giant space rock defense system may ultimately turn out to be, and it will require abundant resources, technology, and engineering on a scale never attempted before. The "device", or whatever will actually redirect the giant space rocks away from the planet, will be the most important human technological development of all time, perhaps even the final product of the earth-based human era, whether we survive or not. So what are we waiting for?)
However, if the news broke that a GSR would strike in several millennia, I doubt much would change from our current state of inaction. We have plenty of time, they would say, since no one currently alive will need to worry about it. That's what we do: act like we have plenty of time.
But without a perfect detection system in place (able to detect all objects over a certain size at a certain distance), time is an unknown variable. It would be a good idea to proceed as if we have limited time to defend the planet because, actually, we have limited time to defend the planet. Everything is limited for humans, in our current state of existence. Limited time, limited resources, limited intelligence. We're down to just one single habitable planet (not that we ever had or deserved more than one), and we act as if everything is un-limited.
Humans feel the same way about our closest star. "Oh, sure, it'll blow up one day, but that's too far in the future for me to care about. Let's go back to hurting each other and fighting over nothing while we exploit our only home." Exploding stars and giant space rocks are not part of the current human agenda, but there may be more interest in the future, one can never truly know for sure what ideas may captivate the masses.
Survival became too easy and commonplace for certain groups. Those groups became so successful at the game of resource acquisition that they also became lazy and forgot about the difficulties of planetary survival. Their forgetfulness and complacency lulled them into a false sense of security. Belief in an afterlife didn't help.
I often return to this idea of giant space rocks whenever life seems absurd, because nothing is more absurd than humanity continuing without a planetary defense system. Are other analogies helpful?
For those still living in the Wild-West: imagine an infinite number of bullets being fired at your home from all directions, for the entire time that your home exists. You'll never know when a bullet will hit you, and it could the size of a .22 or .50 BMG. It could even be the size of a cannonball and kill everyone in your home, since huge caliber ammunition has killed almost all of the previous inhabitants.
Would you try to detect the bullets before they hit your home? Knowing about the bullet may be helpful, especially where and when the bullet will hit, and whether it will be a flesh wound or a bull's eye.
Would you try to stop the bullets in some way? Preventing the bullets from hitting your home will help you and your family survive.
("Wild-Westerners" respond: 'Your analogy means everyone on Earth is my family, and I'm not entirely comfortable with that. In fact, I'm downright offended. Are you even legal in this country? You-people are the reason I carry guns.')
Does anyone else need an analogy?
How grotesque and absurd is it that we don't already have a planetary defense system? How is it not a global human effort to stop the giant space rocks from killing us all? Find any headline from the news and re-contextualize it by adding "... and in other news, another giant world-killer was successfully diverted, humanity will continue after all."
Our little stupid priorities. Our stupid money. Our stupid governments. Our stupid religions. We're so accustomed to killing people ourselves we can't fathom a real entity that will do it for us. Instead we invent imaginary beings who exterminate humanity with silly floods (and other things that frightened ancient people). But while stupid people made up their silly stories, the real humanity-killer was always out there, on its course, careening through space and time, a speeding bullet with our name on it.
Who wouldn't want to contribute to the global human effort to save the planet? Anti-globalists? If an extinction-hungry space rock has us in its sights, is there another job someone would rather do?
"You guys can go stop the planet-killer. I'm fine staying here, sticking with the wage-slaving. People gotta eat, you know, while the giant space rock is being diverted."
Sure, yes, life and commerce would continue in some form while humanity dealt with the GSRs, but how long would capitalism and the labor-consumption cycle persist after humanity successful dodged a space bullet?
Cynics, and perhaps everyone, would say profiteering would be commonplace after a near-apocalypse, with industries and commercial interests taking over the maintenance of the planetary defense program. Others would say the militarization of the space defensive system is inevitable.
I say the threat of a giant space rock would cancel capitalism.
Would an industry or an individual business refuse to supply the anti-GSR effort? How would that play out on Earth?
If the global effort to build a defense system against giant space rocks required, for example, an enormous amount of natural resources that were scarce on Earth, capitalistic interests would attempt to control and profit from the demand for those resources. If capitalists were allowed to do so, a scenario might occur where humanity could not afford to save itself.
Apologists would say it could never happen, that if the planetary defense system truly needed a specific resource to be successful, then the people who control that resource would acquiesce and "donate" it to save humanity, instead of demanding payment. Why should we assume capitalists will resort to charity when the world is about to end? Do we want to take that chance, that Mr Moneybags Tycoon will give away his resources for free?
Tell me how a stubborn individual - who happens to control a rare commodity and also wants to watch the world burn - will be convinced to donate their resources to the global protection effort? Or a rogue nation that is the sole producer of a specific resource - how will they be convinced?
Capitalism allows resources to be controlled by individuals. It also allows and in many ways encourages the hoarding of resources. What are we to do if the planetary defense system requires a rare element and only one individual (or corporation or nation-state) owns the lot of it? Sorry, world, we can't afford to buy the last bit of pure promethium off the Florida-man hoarding it. I guess we can't finish building Earth's Meteor Defender.
If not promethium, then some other element. For historical reference, think of it as oil, or diamonds, or gold, or spices, or any of the other multitude of possessions humans have killed each other over. We are experts at fighting and killing each other for resources. Perhaps that will be the plan? To negate capitalism and simply exterminate those hoarding the elements and utilize them on the planetary defense system? Does property still exist when the world is about to end?
It is entirely a possibility that humanity will continue to produce individuals who will encourage our own extinction. Will capitalism become associated with suicidal tendencies in the future? Is anything more misanthropic than our labor-consumption cycle?
I imagine a tycoon sitting on his golden throne, watching the world burn because we couldn't afford his fancy space lasers. Or more realistically, perhaps he's watching Earth burn from the comfort of another planet, or moon, or space craft, because NASA couldn't afford his SRCT (space rock capture technology). Perhaps that will be the philosophy of the future space tycoons: exploit the planet of its resources to ensure their own survival, while simultaneously bringing about the extinction of everyone else. Perhaps the future planet-killers will actually be just resource-hungry space tycoons, sailing from planet to planet, stripping them of resources and bombarding them with space rocks on their way out. Who needs evil aliens?
Can we afford to save the planet? The question itself is absurd, yet how many people read it with a straight face? Let's examine the costs.
Giant space rocks are located in the void, so our technology will have to travel in the void as well, but luckily we have experience in that arena. We know the rockets in the Apollo program used several tons of fuel per second to achieve escape velocity and reach orbit. Now, taking into consideration the duration of the flight, the weight of the payload and the cost of kerosene, we can calculate the enormous cost with an average of twenty tons per second and ... See how easy it is to become absurd under capitalism? To begin saving the planet, we would need to calculate the cost of fuel!
Is saving the planet too expensive? Is there a more complicated question that capitalism cannot answer? What are our alternatives?
Start sharing resources now, so when our survival truly depends on it, we'll be ready to pool everything together and succeed.
I don't believe a single space agency is capable of building and maintaining the planetary defense system, and even a collaboration of agencies may not be enough. Private business interests may surpass and dominate government space programs, but this is an even worse idea than allowing capitalism to exist in lieu of a planetary defense system. Can you imagine a hostile space corporation allowing a small space rock to hit their competitor's headquarters?
Or one nation's space program letting a few village-killers land in their enemy's territory? Not every country will be able to contribute financially (or at all) to the planetary defense program, so perhaps we should let them get wiped out by a tiny meteor? Cut out the middlemen between the resources buried in their ground and the planetary defense system in orbit above them. They were just getting in the way. And then the mind wanders to the other side of the equation and ponders the concept of using space rocks as offensive weapons ... no human would consider such a thing? That's not in our immediate future, right?
What are we going to do? Who has a better plan than what were currently doing (which seems like almost nothing)? Will we just keep killing each other arbitrarily over nothing until we all get wiped out ourselves?
'Oumuamua.
All of these interstellar objects that seem to just magically appear in the vicinity of Earth need to stop. And by vicinity, I mean within any distance of our star where the object can be given a name by the media. The speculation about where they originate is neat and everything, but the fact that they zip through here in the first place should have alarmed everyone into action.
Oh, look, another mysterious interstellar visitor we knew nothing about! Hey, wait, it's already left our star system? It's moving that fast? Came out of nowhere! Barely knew it passed through! More importantly, what are we going to name it?
Wild-Westerners, imagine a bullet whizzing past a person, but instead of trying to figure out who shot at them, they're more concerned with everything else they falsely believe is a priority. Hey, buddy, there are many more space bullets on the way, so you better stop what you're doing and figure it out before its too late.
As a child, I assumed adulthood meant working on the planetary defense system, in some capacity or another, perhaps employed in the electronic post office, delivering electronic mail to the meteor-hunting robots in space. But, no, let's not get ahead of ourselves! The papyrus scroll tech was a good idea, right?
Good ideas are the most limited resource on a planet without a defense system.
Just think of all the things we prioritize instead of the safety of our planet. How are we not overwhelmed by our collective shame?
Perhaps it's too late for humanity to change its course, so I like to imagine plans for other emerging civilizations who might fare better than we did. What would this plan look like?
First, before you do anything else, develop the technology to defend your planet from giant space rock impacts. Keep your planet clean until you can find another one, which leads to the second part of the plan: find another planet (or moon, or figure out how to live permanently in space). All of this requires resources, so make sure you've optimized your utilization and allocation of those resources (see the first step: keeping your planet clean).
By all means, don't waste resources and, whatever you do, don't allow anyone to hoard them. Don't let the idea of "ownership" or "property" evolve on your planet. If capitalistic ideas do take hold in your civilization, find a way to educate your people and move past that stage of greed and selfishness (it is merely a phase of early development of civilizations). Constantly remind everyone of the giant space rocks looming above. Giant space rocks!
Every time a person says something belongs to them, correct them by gently informing them of the needs of the planetary defense system. We may need that particular resource to save the planet, so it cannot belong to you personally. Property is a myth ... when a giant space rock is going to end life as we know it.
Ask a capitalist, "Who owns the giant space rock that will exterminate the human race?" An absurd question, you may think, as it's just a lump of detritus floating in space. But at the same time, humans claim ownership of this lump of detritus floating in space that we call home. We believe we possess something when, in fact, it is the other way around: the planet possesses us and we are most certainly its temporary, disposable possessions. We are beholden to the planet - it owns us. We are the planet's servants until we can become its custodians.
Until we reach a different realm of existence (if that's even possible), there are no other decent alternatives to having a place to live, whether it's on a planet, moon, space station or spacecraft. We are delusional and falsely believe we still have options or time.
You can't ask the dinosaurs what is more important than the threat of giant space rocks, but you can ask yourself: What have I done to protect humanity from giant space rocks?
Imagine, if you will, Mr Moneybags Tycoon, with his infinite wisdom and bottomless coffers, proceeding to undertake the business of saving the planet from the giant space rocks. He uses his own business to facilitate the construction of the detection system in orbit, utilizing corporate partnerships in various industries to supply the materials and labor. For the defensive component, he partners with the military of certain governments (but not others). The planet is saved by his business ... but what happens after that? Is his business accused of monopolization? Is the tycoon himself deified? Is there any dimension in the multiverse where this actually happens?
I suspect there is not. It seems logical to me that giant space rocks exterminate most civilizations in the universe, especially the civilizations stuck in the labor-consumption cycle. Perhaps most civilizations never progress beyond that stage, the era when they thought they had the luxury to choose to ignore the threat. Perhaps the labor-consumption cycle is the greatest filter.
Suppose they are not such a big deal, these giant space rocks, and dealing with them is actually easier than we think. The technology may be less resource-demanding than we assume in our doomsday, worst-case scenarios. But as I type these words, there is not a single thing happening in the entire world that convinces me people are ready to undertake any of this. The senseless deaths during an avoidable pandemic are just an example of how ill-prepared governments and humanity in general will be when dealing with the magnitude of giant space rocks.
Giant space rocks? We couldn't handle face masks.
The extinction of the human race? We executed people during a global pandemic. (Instead of executing people, why not declare them "essential workers" and sacrifice them that way?)
We are simply not ready. Half of a country joined an anti-reality, fascist death-cult during a global pandemic. Some of them even died still in denial of what was killing them ...

"Less than one percent of civilizations get struck by giant space rocks. Young civilizations are immune from giant space rocks."
"I don't trust your planetary defense vaccine, it's unnatural. The atmosphere has enough natural immunity from giant space rocks."
"We believe these two things simultaneously: 1) the planetary defense system will suffocate us and, 2) giant space rocks will pass right through the planetary defense system. So what's the point? Clearly alien mind control propaganda, right?"
Never forget: Many millions of people voted against their own interests, like healthcare during a pandemic. These same people would vote to dismantle the planetary defense system if they could, something that (like healthcare) is in everyone's interest, always.
What are your priorities? How will your life change when they discover a giant space rock will strike the planet during your lifetime? In ten years? In five? Next week? Tomorrow?
What will our excuses be? We were busy? We had other priorities?
They love to refer to certain eras and the people from those eras as "great" generations, but what will they call the generation that builds the first planetary defense system? The generation that actually saves the planet?
Some people ponder the "reason" or "purpose" or "meaning" of life. Those people could use a job working for the global effort to develop our planetary defense system! Once that's taken care of, they may experience a brief lull in their quest for meaning but, I can assure you, finding another habitable planet will be a top priority for every future generation. Why? Because that's the other "meaning" they are searching for ... finding other forms of life in the universe.
Yes, another great, long-term goal after surviving the giant space rocks is obviously to find other life forms in the universe. Need more reason? More purpose? Figuring out why most of the universe is invisible to us is another great long-term goal. Surely, we must pursue an understanding of dark matter and dark energy. Advanced civilizations will have answers for most of our questions. What else does anyone need to know?
Surviving giant space rocks, leaving Earth and finding other civilizations (or their compendiums) to teach us about dark matter and dark energy are admirable and achievable goals for humanity.
But who actually supports giant space rocks in their quest to destroy us?
Bad Ideas: Religion (science denialism, the spreading of delusions).
Capitalism (in all its forms, valuing property and commerce over human life).
Politics (the death-cults, the obsession with governance and control, the perpetuation of the labor-consumption cycle).
